After the signing of the act of abdication by his mother, the new Danish King Frederik X appeared on the balcony of Christiansborg Castle in Copenhagen to be formally proclaimed King of Denmark by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Today, January 14, 2024 Queen Margrethe II of Denmark signed her abdication during an exceptional Council of State at Christiansborg Castle in Copenhagen. The Danish Queen announced her plans to abdicate the throne during her annual speech on new years eve, two weeks ago.
