It has been confirmed this evening, local time, that King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand has passed away at the age of 88. He was monarch for 70 years, having celebrated the milestone in June this year, and was the world’s longest reigning monarch. Thai King’s Health ‘Unstable’, Palace Says In Rare Statement

King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand is in an “unstable” condition at the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, the Thai Royal Palace said in a statement released late Sunday night. He has received haemodialysis treatment, which purifies the blood in an individual who does not have proper kidney function; however the treatment caused his blood pressure to drop. Thailand’s 88-year-old monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadej is recovering from an unknown infection and high fever, a Royal Palace statement said last night. “On the night of February 14, His Majesty the King’s breathing quickened and an X-ray in the chest showed no lung infection.
