King Bhumibol Recovering From Infection, High Fever

Thailand’s 88-year-old monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadej is recovering from an unknown infection and high fever, a Royal Palace statement said last night.

“On the night of February 14, His Majesty the King’s breathing quickened and an X-ray in the chest showed no lung infection. On February 15, the king’s fever was at 38.1 degrees Celsius,” the bulletin on the King’s health read, before revealing tests were still being undertaken to determine the cause of the infection.

King Bhumibol has been in hospital on a permanent basis since May 2015, and has been in ill-health for several years, rarely appearing in public.
