The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, 6 May 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Tim Lawrence was in the photograph of the working royals, he has never as far as I know officially been one, but in recent times he has accompanied Anne to a number of engagements. Do you think he might start to do more on his own or was this in honour of his service and support of his wife and the King.

I noticed that the King's procession from the Abbey back to the Palace also included representatives from several Commonwealth countries where the King is not the Head of State, including both republics (Barbados, Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Seychelles, Trinidad and Tobago , etc.) and separate monarchies (like Brunei, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malaysia, and Tonga). I find that quite strange since the King's position as "Head of the Commonwealth" has no constitutional meaning and is purely honorific in the Commonwealth countries that are not Commonwealh realms. Why should the soldiers and sailors of those countries be parading for the Head of State of a foreign country?

Hallo girl, yes, I caught that too and had the same thought !
Personally, I'm glad Tim got that recognition.

I am looking forward to Charles Royal Family Order too.

You answered your own question.

Charles is Head of the Commonwealth as well as King of 15 nations.

We in the Commonwealth understand that most countries have a different Head of State but we a still a family of nations and want to share our special days as a family.

Not everything has to be because of a 'constitutional' role.

I appreciate your answer. Thanks
The people you mention would then have to come under the Sovereign Grant and the whole point is to reduce who receives money from that. They could not continue with their private employment/ income . Whether we like it or not or think they do trade on their connections they all are employed and receive an income but not from public funds.

I think it was because he sometimes accompanies Anne to engagements. I don't think we'll see him carrying out engagements by himself.

Were there working-royal-only portraits prior to Tim Laurence's appearance in them?

I also didn´t say that other royal houses were not cherished. I said that exactly here on this forum people often complain that these royal families are often not given so much credit and are much less known to many people not living in these countries, as the Windsors were, and state this was unfair. Perhaps they would be more reckognized if their appearance had a more "royal profile" instead of looking like some presidents or Madame Macron, Mrs Biden - or a PMs wife...?!

As I said, I cannot find the answer which you said you have posted, so I will assume you are referring to the post to which I originally replied:

As one of those who "here on this forum people often complain that these royal families are often not given so much credit", naturally, I cannot speak for everyone, but I would think that this is a complaint about Anglocentrism, rather than a suggestion that non-British royal families are inferior to the British one.

The intention is to really reduce over time obviously to the monarch and spouse and heir and spouse.

That's conjecture as far as I know. Unless the palace or the King has confirmed this?

In her Canadian interview the Princess Royal made it clear that further reduction of the working members of the family is not desirable - so, I'd say that they are all hoping that both Charlotte and Louis will be open to becoming working members of the royal family in support of their father and brother.

The overwhelming support, respect, almost adulation that the whole Wales Family is receiving makes me think that Charlotte and Louis will be full time Working Royals, should they want to be.

William and Kate have knocked it out of the park in raising their children so far. Especially, the children's demeanor in Public.

I say this now, knowing that things CAN always change. But I'm hopeful anyways !

Good afternoon,
I was wondering if anybody knows anything about the german relatives of HM King Charles and their attendance? Hoping to see some pictures of the Hesse, Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Baden family...

I thought they were present at the Coronation and at the concert.

Thank you both! Do you know if any pictures are online? I haven't seen any thus far.... ?

An article from Lambeth Palace highlighting the new elements in the coronation ceremony compared to the one in 1953:

https://www.archbishopofcanterbury....publishes-liturgy-coronation-king-charles-iii

These new elements have been chosen to express the theme of loving service that lies at the heart of the Christian faith and contemporary Monarchy, and to represent and celebrate the diversity of our nation today. They include:

At the opening of the service, The King will be greeted by one of the youngest members of the congregation – a Chapel Royal chorister – to whom The King will say the words: “In His name and after His example, I come not to be served but to serve.” This new element underscores the importance of young people in our society.

In another unique moment in the history of Coronations, The King will pray aloud in the Abbey using words specially written for the occasion that reflect the duty and privilege of the Sovereign to serve all communities.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has selected a new Epistle for this Coronation, which will be Colossians 1:9-17. This passage has been chosen to reflect the theme of service to others, and the loving rule of Christ over all people and all things, which runs through this Coronation Liturgy. Following recent tradition of British Prime Ministers giving readings at State occasions – as Head of the host Nation’s Government – this will be read by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Before The King takes the Coronation Oath, in newly-written wording the Archbishop of Canterbury will explain that the Church of England will seek to foster an environment where “people of all faiths and beliefs may live freely.”

For the first time, the Coronation service will include other languages associated with the British Isles – with a prayer in Welsh and a hymn (Veni Creator) sung in Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic.

The homage of peers has been replaced by a Homage of the People: those watching and listening at home and elsewhere will be invited to make their homage by sharing in the same words – a chorus of millions of voices enabled for the first time in history to participate in this solemn and joyful moment.

Female bishops will participate in the Coronation for the first time. The Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, Bishop of London; The Rt Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover and the Bishop in Canterbury; and The Right Reverend Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Chelmsford, will all play a role in the Coronation Service.

To reflect the global Anglican Communion, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem will take part in the Anointing by presenting the Coronation Chrism Oil to the Archbishop of Canterbury, thus completing its journey from where it was consecrated at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

The Presentation of the Regalia will be made by Members of the House of Lords, as well as Senior Bishops in the Church of England. For the first time, some of these items – those which have no Christian meaning or symbolism – will be presented by Peers who belong to different faith traditions: Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism.

At the end of the procession at the close of the service, before His Majesty proceeds to the Gold State Coach, The King will receive and acknowledge a spoken greeting delivered in unison by Representatives from Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Buddhist communities.

Was Arthur Chatto present at the coronation?

Yes I believe he was in a military uniform and arrived with his mother the Lady Sarah.

Wasn't that his brother Samuel. I know only of her sons was tehre.

Samuel Chatto and Viscount Linley look so much alike. I confused the latter for the former at the coronation.

Yes, the Court Circular doesn't list Arthur as attending. I wonder if he was on duty somewhere?

The Coronation of The King and Queen took place in Westminster Abbey today.

Their Majesties left Buckingham Palace at 10.20 o'clock this morning and proceeded in State to the Abbey, escorted by a Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry, with Standard, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Armitage (The Life Guards).

The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted the Service.

The Prince and Princess of Wales with Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales, The Duke of Sussex, The Duke of York, Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank and Mr. Jack Brooksbank, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh with the Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and Earl of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Mr. Peter Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Tindall, The Earl of Snowdon, Viscount Linley and The Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Mr. Daniel and The Lady Sarah Chatto and Mr. Samuel Chatto, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Earl of Ulster, The Lady Davina Lewis, The Lady Rose Gilman, The Duke of Kent, Earl of St. Andrews, The Lord Nicholas Windsor, The Lady Helen Taylor, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, The Lord Frederick Windsor, The Lady Gabriella Kingston, Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, Mr. James Ogilvy and Miss Marina Ogilvy were present.

I was really glad to see that the limitation to only blood relatives and not their spouses did not extend to Charles's cousins by his aunt but only to the children of his mother's cousins.

In the last few days, I've been re-watching The Coronation and looking for different things. New things I've noticed:

When The King is processing out to "God Save The King," Lady Sarah Chatto appears to be crying.

You get a very brief peek at the AOC's hands through the anointing screen; you can see them moving in a blessing just before the camera cuts away.

During the Processional into the Abbey, Prince George gets a curtsey: there is a woman (in a blue dress, cream hat, next to a woman in burgundy) who curtseys to The King, then to George, and finally to the Prince and Princess of Wales. The camera changes views then, so I don't know if Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis get one too.

One other thought:

I am a singer and have performed "Zadok the Priest" in a concert setting on a few occasions. However, nothing prepared me for my emotional reaction on Saturday, hearing Handel's great anthem performed in the sacred venue it was originally composed for and for the reason it was composed. I got shivers down my back, and I still do every time I see it again.

It sounds they are listed according to the line of succession. But after all, you can say there is the Prince of Wales and then there are Royal Dukes and there are other family members, but all in all only those who work really ccount when it comes to their seating. That is: Duke of Gloucester in front of Dukes of York and Sussex.

For me one of the most poignant moments was when the Anointing Screens were removed and we saw the King kneeling humbly at the altar wearing a simple white tunic. It was a striking moment reminding us that he is merely a human being here by the grace of God. It was beautiful.

I also loved William's homage to him.

The entire ceremony was quite beautiful.

Yes, they were listed exactly in their order in the line of succession, barring those who are actually excluded from the succession for being Catholics like Lord Nicholas Windsor.
