The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, 6 May 2023

I still think the purple tunic looks horse jockey-ish. I guess past male monarches wore them too, but it isn’t as noticeable in black and white photographs, but can be seen in paintings. Charles’ portrait has both the tunic and robe lining showing tsk tsk!!! And could have done a more dramatic dark or ornate background.

Saw on his Instagram that Hugo Burnand brought a team of five people for the Coronation. (They rode bikes to work, cute! Seem to remember them doing that before) And there was Chris Jackson too. Hope that means there are more official and behind-the-scenes photos to come.

There is still the Coronation State Portrait being done by figurative painter Peter Kuhfeld. Here’s a previous painting he did of Charles and a description of his style. Stalking the Belle Époque: The Belle Époque Today: The Art of Peter Kuhfeld, RP

I hate how everything has to be qualified with “it’s working royals only”

Interesting detail that Kate’s dress seem to have a removable bit at the top of her dress. She didn’t have her dress designed to be compatible atheistically and functionally with her robe? Maybe easier for rewear? And considering Sophie’s dress had a super delicate yoke area. I can’t see Sophie rewearing her white dress with the beautiful cape/train-like detail at the back.

And I just noticed for Camilla, the shoulder details are like part of her dress but also like backpack straps for her robe, instead of a ribbon/cord detail at the shoulder.

It's such a lovely dress with such intricate detail that it would be a shame if it weren't worn again; remove the train and tint it a pastel colour and it could be all go for the next tiara event.

It makes me thing the decision for the ladies to wear their RVO robes has made late on after their gowns were designed. I can see them easily adapting Catherine's like that, wonder if they did it before making Charlotte's and that's where they got the idea for hers from or other way around.

Something must have happened with Alexandra if she was walking around a reception unaided a few months ago and now needs support to stand for a portrait.

Camilla's portrait with robe and crown is lovely and majestic, imho.

Let's try to keep more extensive discussion of the ladies gowns on their respective fashion threads. Because of the release of the photos it's natural for some conversation about it to be here, but anything that is more detailed should be in the fashion threads.

Maybe there could be a coronation fashion thread?

I've literally just realised Camilla seems to be sitting / leaning on the arm of the chair in her pic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had hopes along those lines. I even had a picture of it made in my own mind. William and Catherine in their full robes with George, Charlotte and Louis in their attire as we have seen it.

I think it is a missed chance, although there may be a possibility that those photos were indeed made but not released yet so who knows what the future may see.

For the Wales children, would it look best to have Prince Louis in the middle?

And i think the 'missed chance' is actually needed - of the full working member Royal Family photo, they're all between 40 and 90 years old - a picture including the Wales children would indicate a future that just can't be seen in this photo.

And it would bring the average age down too :whistling:

State Opening of Parliament!

State Opening of Parliament!

Yes, I am actually expecting both the Queen Consort and Princess of Wales to wear their coronation dresses to the SOoP coming up. We shall see very soon what kind of dress code it will be soon enough.

No new family order yet then, that's a surprise. Edward and Sophie also seem to be holding Alexandra up which is nice but also sad for her.

I thought they were. Sad to see her so frail, but what a lovely smile! I'm glad to see her brother the Duke of Kent looking well.

Anyone in the UK knows if the coronation outfits will be on exhibit at one the museums, like Kate's wedding dress?

I would expect Camilla's dress to be on display at Buckingham Palace during the summer opening, along with Charles' outfit and probably George's page boy outfit.

Thanks :flowers: That means we will be able to see them in the YouTube channels.

I enjoyed this Coronation Service so much!! It was amazing! The music was so beautiful and I think everything was done perfectly.

Beautiful! I was just thinking I couldn't wait for this piece, and low and behold!

I think I am going to watch the Coronation service again just so I can hear the amazing music one more time. It was phenomenal!

Close-up of Prince George! What must be going through his mind today?

I was thinking that too as I watched the ceremony. He has to know by this time that he will be King himself one day.

I believe there is a DVD/CD being released of the music - not sure if it includes the footage as well or just the music.

That will be wonderful because a lot of music for the audience in the Abbey was not broadcast as they were following the royal carriage.

Can't believe all the celebrations are now over. What a fantastic few days it has been

Will make an excellent Christmas stocking filler!

When I saw the Group picture with the King Charles working Royals , I thought we will be the working Royals for the future King William .
No Philips , no York sisters, no Gloucester , no Children of the 3 Kents.
They are all young people with an easy life, pictured when they are going out in the Evening etc.... Will they change their lifes ???

What a pity the Duchess of Kent was not present at the Coronation.

I didn't expect after she didn't make Philip's memorial service, the jubilee service or the late Queen's funeral last year but I agree, it would have been lovely to see her. She is now the oldest member of the BRF.

The intention is to really reduce over time obviously to the monarch and spouse and heir and spouse.

I am not even sure siblings will be wanted/needed in the future.

There are four working royals under 70 and none under 40. By the time the next generation are ready - in 20 or so years there may very well only be William and Catherine.

The people you mention would then have to come under the Sovereign Grant and the whole point is to reduce who receives money from that. They could not continue with their private employment/ income . Whether we like it or not or think they do trade on their connections they all are employed and receive an income but not from public funds.

I was really surprised that she did not attend the Queens funeral, so there must be a very good reason, so not so surprised that she was not at the coronation.
