Belgian State Visit to The Netherlands – Day Two

The second day of the state visit started today, Tuesday November 29, with separate events for the Royal Couples.

His Majesty King Philippe began the day with a visit at the headquarter of the ESA / ESTEC in Noordwijk. The ESA / ESTEC is the largest European Space Agency’s main technology development and test centre. Later the King had several institutional meetings: he was received by Mrs. Ankie Broekers-Knol, Chairman of the Senate of Parliament and Mrs Khadija Arib, Chairman of the House of Representatives. Then the King met with the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte.

In the meantime Their Majesties Queen Maxima and Queen Mathilde paid a visit to two social projects supported by the Oranje Fonds. The first stop was at the welfare organization Combiwel that offers various services to young people that left prematurely their school. With the help of volunteers this organization provides an opportunity to the young people to find a job or the help to end their studies.

The second visit was at the non-profit organization Vitalis, a professional organization that aims to help young people from 5 to 18 years old that are living in a vulnerable position and at risk of getting into trouble. During the visits at these organizations the two Queens had the chance to spoke with representatives of the Oranje Fonds, the volunteers and the young people.

At lunchtime the Royal Couples were reunited for a luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the Dutch goverment at the Hall of Knights in The Hague.

In the afternoon King Willem-Alexander and King Philippe attended a round table meeting with Belgian and Dutch CEOs at VNO-NCW, a Dutch employers’ federation.

Meanwhile Queen Maxima and Queen Mathilde visited the Cobra Museum of Modern Art. In the Museum they toured the exhibition “Pierre Alechinsky – post Cobra”, a retrospective exhibition that shows about 90 works of the Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky who accompanied the two Queens during the visit at the exhibition.

In the evening King Philippe and Queen Mathilde offered a concert in honor of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima at the concert hall Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. Performer of the concert was the Belgian musician Ozark Henry accompanied by the National Orchestra of Belgium. Princess Beatrix, Prince Constantijn, Princess Laurentien and Princess Margriet were present as well.
