King Abdullah of Jordan opened on Tuesday the new premises of The Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in Salt (Northwest of Amman).
The Institute, which was opened by the late King Hussein in 1964, is a residential school providing education, rehabilitation and vocational training for hearing and visually impaired children and young people.
During a tour of the new premises the Monarch met with students and he was briefed on handicraft, textile, embroidery and ornament made by students.

Today, Jordan marks the 74th anniversary of the birth of the late King Hussein. King Hussein bin Talal was born on November 14, 1935 at the Al-Qasr Al-Sagheer Palace in Amman to Prince Talal bin Abdullah and Princess Zein Al-Sharaf bint Jamil. After completing his elementary education in Amman, King Hussein attended Victoria College in Alexandria (Egypt),and Harrow School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, both in England.
When he was 15 years old, he witnessed the murder of his grandfather, King Abdullah I, at Al Aqsa Mosque in al-Quds (Jerusalem) after Friday prayers.
Prince Talal, King Abdullah´s eldest son, assumed the Throne on September 6, 1951; but only eleven months later, he was declared unfit to rule by parliament because of mental illness. King Talal abdicated in favour of his eldest son, Hussein. On August 11, 1952, Hussein was proclaimed King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He was only sixteen years old at the time. A Regency Council was appointed until King Hussein’s formal accession to the Throne on May 2, 1953, when he assumed his constitutional powers after reaching the age of eighteen, according to the Islamic calendar. Princess Badiya bint El Hassan attended on Thursday the Women of the Future Awards at the Marriott Hotel in London.
This year’s winners of the prize were chosen by a panel of judges led by Princess Badiya. During the ceremony received the 2009 Award: Emily Bendell, founder of Blue Bella; Ruth Amos, the 19-year-old inventor; tailor Kathryn Sargent; and the youngest and only female CEO of a City broker, Sam Smith.
This prizes were founded by writer and entrepreneur Pinky Lilani OBE and Caspian Publishing to identify Britain’s talented young women, who are set to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Also were presented at the awards ceremony Princess Zahra Aga Khan and Cherie Blair.

His Majesty King Abdullah II was interviewed by the London-based Al Hayat Newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief, Ghassan Charbel, on Monday where the King talks about peace, the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian state.

HRH Prince Ra’ad bin Zein, Chief Chamberlain, attended a ceremony at the Amman Martyrs Site on Monday, marking the fourth anniversary of the Amman bombings. Also attended the ceremony a number of ambassadors, survivors of terrorist attacks around the World and Deputy Mayor of Amman, Amer Al Bashir.
The Amman bombings were a series of coordinated bomb attacks on three hotels in Amman, which claimed the lives of 87 people, 70 of them Jordanians, and injured 115 others.
Deputising for Queen Rania, Prince Ra’ad, announced the launch of the Global Survivor Network (www.globalsurvivors.net), an international network which will give help to victims of terrorism around the globe.

The Royal Court announced yesterday that the King and Queen of Jordan flew to London on Sunday for a working visit to Britain, which is due to last several days.
During the visit His Majesty, accompanied by Queen Rania, will meet with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. According a Royal Court statement the two leaders will talk about “latest developments in the Middle East, particularly efforts being made to establish peace based on the two-state vision”.
The King is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the British Royal College for Defence Studies. It is the second working visit to UK during this year. The previous visit took place on June 19-22, 2009

On October 29th, 2009 Queen Noor of Jordan attended the Common Ground Awards at the Canadian Embassy, in Washington DC (USA). The ceremony started with a reception where guests could enjoy listening sounds of gypsy jazz.
After Susan Collin Marks, co-founder of Search for Common Ground, and Queen Noor, chair of the King Hussein Foundation, presented the 2009 Common Ground Awards to CeaseFire, Luma Mufleh and the Fugees Family, Karen Armstrong, Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, Congressmen John Lewis and Elwin Wilson, Playing for Change, Melissa Etheridge and Salman Ahmad.
The Common Grounds Awards has been presented annually since 1998 by Search for Common Ground (SFCG) to honor people who have made significant contributions to accomplishments in conflict resolution and peace building.

Five months ago Her Majesty Queen Rania visited two schools in Jerash Governorate that were suffering from serious infrastructure problems such as broken windows, crumbling walls, peeling paintwork, unpaved terrain, inadequate sanitary facilities and poor lighting.
Her visit to the same two schools on Wednesday 4 November 2009 was to check on the completed renovation work. Queen Rania saw noticeable changes for the better. Queen Rania visited classrooms that were completed the renovations and listened to school girls talking about the change their school went through.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev arrived in Amman on Tuesday for two-day official visit to Jordan upon the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II. Nazarbayev was welcomed by King Abdullah at Royal Offices at the King Hussein Bin Talal Mosque in Amman.
At the meeting the two leaders discussed about ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries. They also touched on efforts to relaunch peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.
On Tuesday evening King and President attended a concert of Kazakh music at King Hussein bin Talal Convention Centre in the Dead Sea. They also opened the exhibition of Kazakh ancient jewelleries and souvenirs was organized within Kazakh Cultural Days in Jordan.
That night King Abdullah hosted a dinner banquet in honour of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
On day 2 the President Nazarbayev visited the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau Industrial Park (KADDB).
It is the second visit of Nazarbayev to Jordan. The first one was in November 2006.

Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein presented on November 2nd the SOS Anniversary Award to Johnson & Johnson for their support of SOS Children’s Villages in Africa at the Embassy of Austria in Washington D.C.
She too shared her experiences with SOS Children’s Villages in Jordan during the reception hosted by His Excellency the Ambassador of Austria, Dr. Christian Prosl, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the organisation. Queen Noor Al Hussein, Honorary Chairperson of SOS Children’s Village Association of Jordan and honorary member of the General Assembly of the SOS-Kinderdorf International, introduced the SOS Children’s Villages in Jordan after a meeting with Hermann Gmeiner, the founder of SOS Children’s Villages.
The first Jordanian SOS Children’s Village was inaugurated by the late King Hussein and Queen Noor on May 7, 1987 in Amman.
