Dutch Introductory Visit To Italy

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima paid an introductory visit to Italy on Thursday January 23rd.

The Royal Couple were received at Quirinale, the Presidential Palace by the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano. After posing for a series of photos, the Royal Couple had a private meeting with the President.
After the meeting with the Italian President, King and the Queen met the Italian Prime Minister, Enrico Letta at the Palazzo Chigi, the official residence of the Government. The Royal Couple were greeted in the courtyard of the Palace by the Prime Minister Enrico Letta and his wife Gianna Fregonara. The inspection of the guard of honour took place. A luncheon was hosted for the visiting King and Queen by the Prime Minister.

The last event of the introductory visit took place in the afternoon when King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the President of the Italian Senate, Piero Grasso. The King and the Queen were welcomed by the President and his wife Maria Fedele at Palazzo Giustiniani in the “Hall of Mirrors”. The President showed to the Royal Couple the Italian Constitution, a document from 1947 in the “Consitutional Hall”. A meeting was later held in the “Red Hall”. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frans Timmermans.
