Emperor Akihito To Abdicate In April 2019

Following a meeting of the Imperial Household Council on Friday morning, the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, has announced that Emperor Akihito will abdicate the throne on April 30, 2019. His son, Crown Prince Naruhito, will succeed the throne the following day, May 1. Emperor Akihito Celebrates 83rd Birthday With Record-Breaking Crowd

Prince Hisahito Joins Parents On Visit To Niigata Prefecture

Japan’s 9-year-old Prince Hisahito has joined his parents, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, on a three-day visit to the Niigata Prefecture in the centre of the country. Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko Attend A Memorial Service

Earlier today, Japanese Prince Akishino and his wife Princess Kiko attended an annual memorial service at Tokyo’s Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery. During the service, the Prince and Princess prayed for the 2,498 unidentified soldiers who died during World War II. The ceremony was sponsored by the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry.
