New Coin Celebrates Four Generations of House Windsor
The Royal Mint in the United Kingdom has released a new coin to celebrate four generations of the House of Windsor: Queen Elizabeth II and her three direct heirs – the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince George of Cambridge.
The coin features the initials of all four royals, three crowns to symbolise the three direct heirs to the throne, and oak branches to honour the House of Windsor coat of arms. It was designed by heraldic artist Timothy Noad.
2018 is a year of important occasions in the members of the family featured on the coin: the Queen will mark the 65th anniversary of her coronation in June, the Prince of Wales will turn 70 in November, Prince George will turn 5 in July, and the Duke of Cambridge will welcome his third child in April. Not to mention the two royal weddings!
The coin will be available in a variety of versions, including coins struck in gold and silver.
