Queen Elizabeth hosted a reception for Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic medalists from the recent Rio Games this evening at Buckingham Palace.

The TeamGB athletes – including boxer Nicola Adams, the women’s gold medal winning hockey team, gymnast Max Whitlock, equestrian champion Lee Pearson, and show jumper Nick Skelton – were congratulated by a royal contingent comprised of the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of York, the Princess Royal, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent.

Prince Harry was a favourite amongst the athletes (who spent much time in the specially designated ‘Tweet Room’ throughout the event), particularly Paralympic multi-gold medalist Ellie Simmonds, who was thrilled to get a hug from the larrikin prince (who later did an impression of women’s hockey team goal keeper, saying she looked like a crab while in goals).
