Buckingham Palace Makes Complaint Over ‘Queen Backs Brexit’ Headline
Buckingham Palace has made an official complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) this morning regarding The Sun‘s headline that Queen Elizabeth is in favour of breaking from the European Union.
A spokesperson from the Palace said the complaint was “relating to clause one of the Editors’ Code of Practice” (which focuses on accuracy) and reiterated the monarch remains political neutral.
The Sun today has a full front page bearing that headline “Queen Backs Brexit: EU going in wrong direction, she says”. Their sources, anonymous of course, claim the Queen made a number of heated comments to former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg during a meeting at Windsor Castle back in 2011 regarding the state of the European Union.
Mr Clegg immediately denied the story, calling it “nonsense” and that he had no recollection of such a conversation with the Queen.
