Queen Máxima Visits Washington For Finance Forum

As special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Inclusive Finance for Development, Queen Máxima attended the “Financial Inclusion Forum” in Washington on Monday December 1st.

The Forum, organized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), was held at the building of the Department of the Treasury.

Besides the Queen were present U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Jacob Lew, Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Luis Videgaray Caso, Secretary of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico and Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JP Morgan Chase.

Queen Máxima participated at the first panel titled “Financial Inclusion to Advance Global Growth and Equality”. The main discussion of the panel was the ways to access to safe and affordable financial services for everyone because there are still 2 billion people who haven’t got a bank account or savings account, insurance or pensions.

During the one-day visit to Washington, Queen Máxima also had some bilateral consultations.

Queen Máxima was appointed in September 2009 Special advocate of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations.
