Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko Visit Imperial Graveyard
The Emperor and Empress of Japan today paid a visit to the Musashino Imperial Graveyard in Hachioji, Tokyo.
Visiting the cemetery is a tradition following the Japanese Emperor’s return from an overseas trip. The cemetery is the final resting place of Emperor Akihito’s parents, Emperor Hirohito and Empress Kōjun, and his paternal grandparents, Emperor Taishō and Empress Teimei.
After their visit to the graveyard, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited the Takao Mikoromo Hall where they laid flowers at the altar commemorating the victims of industrial accidents in post-war Japan.
