Gold for Norway! Royals Attend Ski Championships
Members of the Swedish and Norwegian Royal Families were on hand today for one of the most anticipated events of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the men’s cross country skiing 4x10km relay.
King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, little Princess Estelle and Prince Carl Philip were joined in Falun by Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who brought along two of their children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.
All the royals wore patriotic clothing, beanies being the most popular choice to show allegiance to their respective countries. The Norwegians had red, white and blue striped beanies, while Princess Estelle again brought out the trusty blue and yellow ‘Sweden’ along with her Swedish flag. Everyone cheered their teams on enthusiastically, and appeared to enjoy being in each other’s company – Crown Princess Victoria was seen giving her goddaughter Ingrid Alexandra a big hug while in the stands.
Despite being host, Sweden had to settle for a silver medal in the relay, as Norway beat them to the line by less than a second. After the race, Haakon and Mette-Marit went down on to the course to congratulate their team.
