State Visit from Switzerland
The Swiss Confederation paid a State Visit to Norway. Her Excellency Ms. Doris Leuthard and Dr. Roland Hausin were welcomed by His Majesty King Harald V on October 14th.
The Confederation was formally welcomed in the Palace Square and were introduced to representatives of official institutions in Norway. The Queen and the Crown Princely couple were also in attendance. After the welcoming ceremomy President Leuthard laid a wreath at the national monument at Akershus Fortress.
Later the day President Leuthard and Dr. Hausin attended the opening of an exhibition in connection with the Swiss award known as “Design Preis Schweiz”. Here they were joined by the Royal couple.
After the opening the King and the President met with the President of the Storting and continued on to the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Meanwhile Queen Sonja and Dr. Hausin visited the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology.
In the evening a gala banquet was hosted in the Royal Palace. During the night the Royal Palace was illuminated by Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter.
The next day the Royal couple joined their guests to the opening of a seminar at Rikshospitalet University Hospital.
They also met with the Nobel Institute and visited the Office of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Stoltenberg hosted an official luncheon in honour of the Swiss Confederation.
In the evening a reception at the Grand Hotel in Oslo was hosted.
