Four-year-old Prince George of Cambridge had an important milestone this week, as he began primary school at Thomas’s Battersea School in South London.

The young Prince – neatly dressed in the navy blue and red uniform of the school – was accompanied by his father, the Duke of Cambridge, as he arrived just before 9am for his first day on Thursday. Due to her severe morning sickness, the Duchess of Cambridge was unable to join them.

Upon arrival, George and Prince William were greeted by Helen Haslem, the head of Thomas’s Battersea lower school, who lead them inside. The Duke at a reception later in the day said that the drop-off “went well” and that he was “quite pleased” he wasn’t one of the parents who had an issue with their child as they tried to leave the building.

Also starting school at Thomas’s Battersea on Thursday was Maud Windsor, the elder daughter of Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor, who was dropped off by her father.
