The Duke of Edinburgh paid a visit to Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday to officially open the newly refurbished Warner Stand.

Joined by members of the Marylebone Cricket Club, which owns Lord’s, Prince Philip inspected the changes to the stand that were undertaken over a two-year period and cost £25 million. When it came time to unveil the plaque marking the opening, the Duke quipped “You’re about to see the world’s most experienced plaque-unveiler”.

He also was shown a number of classic cricket bats that form part of the Lord’s historic collection, before comparing them to the newer bats used by current teams at Lord’s.
