Thank You Ma’am, I Was Getting Peckish: Queen and Prince Philip Feed Elephant

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip today got to feed an elephant called Donna during their visit to the ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire. Zookeepers provided the couple with bananas, which were eagerly gobbled up by the elephant – who even went back to the Queen a second time for another piece of fruit!

The purpose of the royal visit was to officially open the zoo’s new elephant care centre, which is home to nine Asian elephants, including a baby elephant born in 2016 named Elizabeth (natch). Her Majesty spoke with zookeepers about the care the elephants receive, likening it to keeping horses.

Afterwards, the Queen and the Duke paid a visit to a new independent living facility for the elderly, Priory View. They were given a tour of the facility, stopping in at the beauty salon and chatting with some of the residents as they got their hair cut.
