Mette-Marit Skips Polish State Banquet Due To Back Pain
The president of Poland and his wife started their state visit to Norway yesterday. They were received in Oslo by King Harald V, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Astrid amidst pouring rains. Queen Sonja was sensible enough to wear a pair of boots. After the welcoming ceremony the king escorted the president to Akerhus where the president laid a wreath at the monument for the vicims of WWII.
In the evening there was a banquet at the royal palace in Oslo. Crown Princess Mette-Marit had to cancel this part of the programme due to pains in her back. According to Norway’s TV2 the pains prevented the princess from sitting on a chair for the three hours that the banquet lasted. The Norwegian royals were however again joined by King Harald’s sister Princess Astrid. She wore one of her ‘antenna’ tiara’s, of which she once famously joked she could receive radio signals from Moscow.
