The Queen of Spain today gave a speech at the closing seminar of the third International Educational Conference on Rare Diseases at the Universidad del País Vasco in Bilbao.

“Thank you for the work you do, to be useful and brave, to establish the necessary rules for everyone to understand, so that society understands that we must all contribute and we are all necessary,” Queen Letizia said, praising the work of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER), because “for every family, every mother and every father the only aim is for your child to go to school and have a standardised and happy life” regardless of any health issues they may have.

Queen Letizia later met some of the children who FEDER has helped.

The purpose of the conference is to “develop the full potential of people with diseases of low prevalence, strengthen coordination among the socio and educational fields and improve the teaching-learning process.”
