William and Kate’s Second Day in India

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have spent the second day of their Indian tour in Mumbai and New Delhi.

First the couple attended a ‘Great for Collaboration’ exhibition showcasing young entrepreneurs in the country, where they were shown a number of different technological developments. Both William and Kate took a turn at typing out ‘George’ on a braille machine, before the Duke launched the Tech Rocketship Awards for 2016-2017.

It was then north to New Delhi to pay their respects at India Gate, the Indian national war memorial. They laid a wreath of marigolds at the memorial before observing two minute’s silence.

Kate however was unable to control both her loose hair and the full skirt of her cream Emilia Wickstead dress during the ceremony, as the wind billowing around the area whipped them both up. It was quite disappointing that her wardrobe malfunction, which one would expect to no longer occur after several previous instances, came at what was the most sombre event on the Cambridge tour schedule.

The Duke and Duchess afterwards visited Gandhi Smriti, the former home of Mahatma Gandhi, which has been turned into a museum honouring the life of the revered leader. After receiving traditional angavastrams, they scattered rose petals at the spot where Ghandi was assassinated in 1948, the Martyr’s Column Memorial, before touring the museum.

Their final event of the day was a garden party birthday celebration at the High Commissioner’s residence to mark Queen Elizabeth’s upcoming 90th birthday. Kate changed into a beige and black patterned Alice Temperley dress for the event.

Prince William delivered a speech in which he paid tribute to his grandmother, saying that “as she turns 90, she is a remarkably energetic and dedicated guiding force for her family” and that she was undoubtedly “the boss”. He also said that he was incredibly happy that his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, have the chance to get to know the Queen, calling her “a role model for the rest of their lives.”

William and Kate then cut a special birthday cake before mingling with guests.
