Victoria and Daniel first stopped at Södra Hällarna, a nature reserve that sits on what used to be a military firing range. Here, the couple were shown around the reserve by workers and got to see the new bee-hotel. Pupils from the Russet preschool were also on hand to help teach them about Gotland’s native species, particularly the snails and beetles they see on their excursions.

They then went on to Leva Kungslador where founder Susanne Liljenberg explained to them what the organisation does, and spoke at length with Victoria and Daniel about integration issues and the internships Leva Kungslador offers to young people who come to them through the organisation Haima, which provides accommodation to unaccompanied minors that arrive in Sweden. “This is not something you can just leave…It is incredibly tough stuff and it needs to be discussed further to try to get others to understand,” Prince Daniel told the media about the integration of refugees after the meeting.

A private visit to the Tofta Firing Range occurred before lunch at Lilla Bjers with young entrepreneurs from the area. The final portion of the visit was a quick trip to G.A.D. (Gute Art och Design), a furniture company in Visby.

A number of locals came out to catch a glimpse of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel during the day, including one woman who presented them with a framed painting of Pippi Longstocking for Princess Estelle.
