The Earl of Wessex’s 50th Birthday

On March 10, The Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, celebrated his 50th birthday. To celebrate, an event was held at Bagshot Park, the Earl’s residence in Surrey. Those in attendance were The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, The Countess of Wessex, Lady Louise Windsor, Viscount Severn, Viscount and Viscountess Linley and Lady Helen and Tim Taylor.

Prince Edward is the third son and fourth child of The Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. He was born at Buckingham Palace on 10 March 1964 and his siblings are Charles (born in 1948), Anne (born in 1950) and Andrew (born in 1960). He was christened on 2 May 1964 at the Private Chapel of Windsor Castle. His godparents were Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, Katharine, Duchess of Kent, Princess Sophie of Hanover, Louis, Prince of Hesse and by Rhine and Antony Armstrong-Jones, Earl of Snowdon. His full name is Edward Antony Richard Louis.

Prince Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones in a ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on 19 June 1999. They have two children, Lady Louise Windsor (born in 2003) and James, Viscount Severn (born in 2007). In December 2001, Sophie had an ectopic pregnancy after she was taken ill and rushed to the King Edward VII Hospital in London.
