Prince of Asturias Turns 46

The Prince of Asturias turns 46 years old on January 30th. The heir apparent to the Spanish throne was born in Madrid to the then Prince Juan Carlos and Princess Sofia in 1968.

He was baptised on the 8th of February as Felipe Juan Pablo Alfonso de Todos los Santos de Borbón y de Grecia at the Zarzuela Palace chapel by the Archbishop of Madrid. Chosen as his godparents were his paternal great-grandmother, Dowager Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain, and his paternal grandfather, Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona. The Prince has two older sisters, Infantas Elena and Cristina.

In January 1977, he was created Prince of Asturias, the historic title held by the heir to the Spanish throne. As well as being Prince of Asturias, Felipe is also Prince of Girona, Prince of Viana, Duke of Montblanc, Count of Cervera and Lord of Balaguer.

In May 2004, Felipe married Letizia Ortiz in a lavish royal ceremony in Madrid. The couple have two daughters, Infantas Leonor and Sofia. The couple mark their tenth wedding anniversary this May.
