Queen Maxima in Malaysia

On Wednesday September 11th, Queen Maxima was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the annual international policy forum of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI). The forum was held in Malaysia from September 10th to 12th. The theme of the forum this year was: “Driving policies for optimal impact”. In her speech, the Queen stressed all the “remarkable progress in financial inclusion.”

The Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) is a network of financial inclusion policymakers founded in 2008 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
AFI aims to promote access to financial services for people in situations of poverty and improve. The AFI Global Policy Forum is an annual meeting about financial inclusion co-hosted by a different member institution in a different region of the world. Participants of the Forum are policymakers and regulators of central banks and financial institutions from 89 developing countries and countries with emerging economies. The first AFI Global Policy Forum took place in 2009 in Kenya.
Queen Maxima attended the Forum in its capacity as a special advocate of the Secretary-General of the UN in the area of inclusive finance for development and as honorary chairman of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion.
