I could be mistaken, but I think I found the earrings: page 66 of The Queen's Jewels, by Leslie Field.
These earrings are 'The King George VI Chandelier Earrings'. They are on p.53 on my copy of Field's book. In most pictures of QEII, the tiniest diamond on her earrings are the ones that go above or below her pearl stud earrings. All her diamond earrings have much larger stones.

There is a full page photo of this picture on 'The Royal Jewels' by Suzy Menkes where you can see the earrings more clearly.

'Her Majesty's pink diamond brooch with the largest pink diamond in the world is from Canadian mines'' - not so. The pink diamond was found in a Tanganyikan mine belonging to Jack Williamson, a Canadian monarchist who presented it to the Queen. Dr. Williamson roomed with my late father-in-law at McGill University in Montreal during the 1920s. He was by all accounts a very reclusive man with a particular respect for the British Royal Family.

Yes, it's a shame DameL that you were mistaken, I agree with ayvee (about those earrings that you identified in the photograph of HM The Queen in the book 'The Queen's Jewels by Leslie Field p.66); and HRH did not wear HM's most famous diamond chandelier earrings, which are known as 'The King George VI Chandelier Earrings'. I do hope that we become aware of the provenance of the earrings worn on The Royal Tour this year; however I did stumble upon a list of many of the earrings which HRH has worn in public so far....

Catherine's Earrings

and maybe these jewels are a gift to Kate from Prince Charles or the Queen for the wedding. In fact we dont know what kind of gift she was offered by the Queen or the Prince of Wales for the wedding.

They are really lovely the nicest she wore over the whole tour IMO I'm afraid I like a Princess to look like one these did the trick. I do like the earrings od Diana's too but a bit of over kill with them IMO.

Personally, I'm not convinced those sapphire earrings are Diana's; if there has been any confirmation that they are, please correct me.:flowers:

Well I believe they are but I am no jewel expert... I am still of the opinion they have been worn too much ....

My thoughts are similar to yours, they are probably similar to Diana's but not the same. Catherine's earrings are a veru traditional design and may have emerged from the royal vaults/

The only reason I believe they are Diana's is becuase the an original set that she got had clusters.. that Diana later had broken up into different sets of earrings that she could change to wear single or double or hanging from the ear off a gold stud or diamond as Kate does. but who knows for sure.

Yes thanks Lady Ann I still believe they are part of Diana's estate ...

hello, I'm new to this but i grew up following the royals and have been seruptiously following this forum for weeks now. There is an article in the mirror.uk dated July 23 that states William gave Diana's sapphire & diamond studs, refitted, to Catherine as a gift.

I also have been trying to find out more about the diamond earrings Catherine wore at the evening concert in Ottawa and the diamond bracelet she wore the the BAFTA event. I got excited because I just viewed a close up photo of Camilla wearing the diamond bracelet. vogue uk has a photo of her and Catherine at Clarence house leaving for W&C reception. Anyone know about this?

I think it's a lovely gesture!

Why should Diana's jewelry be locked away in a vault forever? It probably gives William pleasure to see the gems on Kate, linking the two women he most loves.

I hope Harry, when he marries, will also present his bride with some of Diana's jewelry.

I am sure Harry will present his bride (whom ever she may be) with some as well, there is plenty to go around...

but for now I hope to see the Duchess with many more of the sapphires.. as they are so lovely when worn together.... looking forward to seeing that pendent on a nice chain soon.... a girl can only hope!!

You are correct MRSJ, Kate did wear them to Prince Phillip's bday first...

I also find it funny that the media only just now caught onto this since she's worn them several times previously.....

I understand the Queen offered up three tiara's for Kate to choose from for the wedding and Kate immediately went for the Halo ( Scroll) Tiara as being the simplest, least ostentatious one of the three. Does anyone know what the other two tiara's were??

I think Kate's wedding tiara fit her personality very well, and I hope she is allowed to borrow it for future events. Camilla, on the other hand, does not seem to do "plain and simple" very well with her use of the Boucheron Honeycomb tiara - its more "Substantial" than many the Queen likes to wear! I could never imagine Kate wearing something like that piece.

Article is incorrect, the first time Kate wore the earrring was to Prince Phillips 90th bday mass at the church, I believe

I don't think it's the same pair! same style, but the relative proportion of the center sapphire is (or at least appears to be) very different in the two pairs of earrings.

Does anyone else think they are different pairs of earrings??

I agree Mommabee, Camilla, does not seem to do "plain and simple" very well at all with her use of the Boucheron Honeycomb tiara and oversized necklaces. Kate on the other hand is much more subtle and prefers to wear more appropriate jewellry. Again I say we are in 2011 and not 1511, so "biscuit barrel" size tiaras are no longer fashionable nor flattering. After HM, Kate is definitely the trend setter.

I agree, they are most probably different earrings.

They look like the same earring too me.... Diana had like 5 clusters that she took apart from a watch and first made them into earrings then broke them up again to make different studs to be worn diffrent ways.. so you may be right. They may not be the same earrings as the photo in media but they are most likely one of Diana's clusters. Why would William give earrings so exact, does not appear to make sense unless they were indeed his mothers. IMO of course. Since I doubt that William would say yes, they are or no, they are not... will just have to keep guessing... happy posting!

I agree Lady Anne, I think they just might be the same earings. I am certain William would be very proud to see his Kate wearing these beautiful pieces in memory of Diana his mother.

I agree with Lady Anne as well....
