I don't like the bow either but I love the look. Also, look at those earrings! Gorgeous!

Apart from the color, I don't like anything about this look.

It is better than some of the awful dresses other royal ladies are wearing, but that's about all I can say for it.

The color is pretty and the hat is nice, but too heavy, for lack of a better word, for that dress, which I do not care for at all. Very dowdy on her. Gorgeous earrings!

i like the Duchess look very much today i think one of her best
that color is divine on her

Catherine looks as if she's raided the Downtown season one closet - I do like her skirt, though it looks very matronly when paired with the blouse. The colours are lovely on her though.

Sorry but the top is not retro it's just matronly. Especially the bow

The skirt of it is beautiful. Can tell its Saab. :flowers:

I hate the flower under the rim hats but this is nicer then some.

Not one comment about the expensive foreign label to a major event. Oops.

Elegant and very Ascot appropriate.

Yes I really find this to be one of Catherine's best Ascot outfits. This Ellie Saab design is very lovely on her.

It's not unheard of for royal ladies including Catherine, to wear expensive foreign labels now and then to a major event. So since most posters here are aware of that, I would presume that no one felt it was necessary to comment.

I thought perhaps people missed Saab is foreign. Certainly last year it was an uproar over Givenchy and breaking rules.

:previous:I'm sure that most posters here are aware that Ellie Saab is from Lebanon and that many royal ladies have worn his fashions for major royal events ie: HGD Stephanie at her 2012 wedding.

However Catherine did not attend the 2018 Royal Ascot at all so she certainly wasn't wearing Givenchy. Not sure how that would be considered "rule breaking.":ermm:
Her last appearance had been in 2017 and she wore a white lace Alexander McQueen dress-domestic label.
For her 2016 appearance she wore white lace Dolce and Gabbanna-foreign label.

Agree about the beautiful shade of blue which suits her colouring, and she has found a hairstyle that works so well with these more elaborate hats. Kate looks immaculately turned out but I loathe that bow and the ribbon cuffs. I find the total effect too fussy. However she carries it off in a way that few other royal ladies could do thanks to her tall and willowy figure.

Considering yesterdays awful weather at Ascot, Kate's outfit seemed too light and summery. The colour was great on her - but it just wasn't right for the day itself

Despite the grey skies and rain, it was still a warm day here.

I was at Ascot yesterday and once the rain started and you got a little wet it was cold as it didn't stop - I know Kate was mostly in the royal box so I guessed she stayed dried bar when she presented the trophy after race 3. To me, being there and with it wet and damp she would have looked better in a coat dress or the like. But Kate wasn't the only one dressed for summer when it wasn't a summers day. I just felt the outfit was too flimsy and too sheer for my personal taste but u would like to see her wearing that colour again.

I loathe ***** bows (personal taste - they come they go, they never add much to design) but I loved absolutely everything about the blue lace dress. I liked all the styling from the intricate hairdo to the contrasting bag.

I also enjoyed that as a party of women they all looked so great together - kinda like a flock of blue butterflies on the grass.

The blue is a stunning colour on her O loved the hat .. never can resist a flowery hat ....loved the whole look with the blue earrings as well

It's quite lovely...great color and style..the bow I could live without but the rest is so good I can ignore that.

LaRae

Nice dress overall and the colour flatters her but I think it would look more sophisticated without the bow.

Thanks for emphasizing my point while some how also missing it by a football field

The point being Kate could wear head to toe foreign designers and no one blinks. And others in her position get attacked for doing the same. Go back to last year and the three or so page discussion about Givenchy at such an important British event. But no such issue with Saab. It's not about the label, it's clearly the person wearing it.

If we are going to point out every time one royal dares wearing foreign seems only fair to do it for all.

Fair? Well, yes, but to what point?

Perfect outfit for the occasion, and I love the fact that she wears her sapphire engagement ring EVERYWHERE. She must be so proud of it. :D

Most women I know wear their engagement rings all of the time. In fact, the safest place for a ring is on the owner's finger.

To me, it is not about "never say never", but it is all about balance. Largely wear British, with the odd international label ever so often. Most royal ladies get this right, but some unfortunately don't.

No actually I didn't miss your point at all. I was well aware of whom you were referring to in your posts. I just chose to follow the forum rules and stay on topic by not bringing that member of the BRF into the discussion about Catherine's daytime outfits.

Now if you wish to continue this discussion please feel free to Private Message me.

I agree. Most of the time posters are not commenting because the royal ladies have found a balance between wearing domestic and foreign labels. If a royal lady chooses to wear mostly foreign labels, that is certainly her choice, but she shouldn't be surprised if there is some discussion about it.

I love this dress. Very light and summery. I really like the sleeves. Pretty colors. It’s a bit different than her usual style too.

I like the dress, the print is something I wouldn’t expect on Catherine. The wedges are hideous and I don’t like the additional sewed hem near the bottom of the dress either.

I really love this look. I always love unannounced engagements too. They are a nice surprise!
