As thousands of people lined the streets of Bangkok, the body of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was taken from the Siriraj Hospital to the Grand Palace ahead of the traditional bathing ceremony which forms part of Buddhist funeral rites.

The convoy following the late King’s casket included Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and Queen Sirikit, who has not been seen in public for over a year.

In the evening, the royal family presided over Buddhist prayers for the late King in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall.

The date of King Bhumibol’s funeral and cremation ceremonies has not yet been announced, though it is not expected for several months to allow for proper planning and the rebuilding of the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang.
