Arham A Damen Maraqa (L) and Renad Qubbaj (2nd L) from the Tamer Institute for Community Education receive the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA Award) from Crown Princess Victoria during a ceremony at the Concert Hall in Stockholm today. The Tamer Institute for Community Education won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, the world's largest prize for children's literature, for its work in promoting learning in a region plagued by violence and political unrest.

Victoria handed out the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award to australian Shaun Tan at a ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall. The award total is SEK five million (about 562000 euros), the biggest international childrens and young peoples literature award in the world.

Aussie artist given Astrid Lindgren award

MELBOURNE man Shaun Tan has been officially presented with one of the world's top literary awards, bestowed by Swedish royalty to rapturous applause and much praise.
The Perth-born and raised author and illustrator humbly accepted the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award last night in Stockholm from Crown Princess Victoria.
The framed diploma almost dwarfed the short Tan, who thrilled a large audience at Stockholm's Concert Hall as he spoke a couple of sentences in Swedish.

This year the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was delivered on yesterday evening and because of the state visit Victoria couldn't attend. The Minister for Culture and Democracy, Alice Bah Kuhnke, delivered the Award to the South African reading promotion PRAESA.
