Thanks, Iceflower :flowers:

If the smile on the flowergirl's head was any wider, the top of her head would drop off. :D
Her headpiece is interesting, reminds me of the traditional Easter European/Russian/Ukrainian peasant-girl decoration. - Or am I completely off the mark here?

:previous: You aren't :D

How many Crown Princesses meets up to eat her dinner with lonely people?
It's a great project from the Mary Foundation. Way to many Danes feel lonely in our country. Terribly many, in fact ...

Thank you, Roskilde :flowers:
The most interesting bit is the evaluation the project has made based on what I presume is a survey among those who have attended such dinners.

Basically two out of three feel they have become less lonely, have begun to build up a network and feel they have become better at establishing social contacts and interacting in social contexts.

A long and interesting article by Politiken: Med kronprinsessen på social visit, hvor opskriften på livsmod bliver jagtet - politiken.dk

IMO it's always interesting to learn about the people who are directly affected by the projects the royals support. In this case loneliness as was the case with Mary's recent visit to a center where lonely people meet.

First a little about the project "værket". Værket is pretty tricky to translate. It can mean a creation or a job that has been completed, a job well done. It can also mean the plant (as in an industrial plant.)
On top of that the word can mean aching. - Confused? So am I! :p

Værket, the Job from now on, is aimed at people age 30-60 and it is ru by the Red Cross.
In 20 places all over DK some 10-12 people meet every two weeks for a communal meal. Here they also practice their social skills in a safe environment, among people who feel just like themselves and who for all sorts of reasons are lonely.
They are also given tools to help improving their social skills, which is also very much about building up self-confidence and self-esteem. And hopefully gain new friends and building a network.

It is estimated that some 100.000 people in DK aged 30-60 feel lonely to an extent that it is debilitating. The irony of the whole thing being that lonely people often feel more lonely when they are together with other people, so that means it's easier to isolate yourself.

One of the people Mary met and dined with at the Job, was 38 year old Charlotte Jensen, mother to a teenage son.
In 2016 she googled loneliness and this is how she got involved with the Job.
And now she was sitting at the same table with Mary. In the photo top of the article Charlotte Jensen is seen talking to Mary. - Who poured water up for her and later offered her chocolate with nuts. Alas Charlotte Jensen is allergic to nuts... that made everyone laugh and broke the ice.

During the visit Mary said: "We are after all pack-animals- Being outside the pack is the worst that can happen to a person. The American professor John Cacioppo, who was present at the first conference aboyt this project used the image with the penguins. They have a system, so that the constantly circle and take turn taking the cold spot on the outside, before they can get into the center again. Only that way everyone can survive. Loneliness is something you can die from, if it becomes a permanent condition. Also in our culture".

Charlotte Jensen explains what they do when they meet. It's all headed by volunteers, who are not professional therapists or psychologists. In this place it's headed by a volunteer named Joan. - Who set up the topics for conversations, head party games and so on.
"We call Joan mother. Because that's how it is. She's ready with a hug and a kiss, just like we in the group are really glad to see each other. It means a tremendous lot. I've felt that from the first meeting. That I felt welcome. There wasn't the distance that I otherwise felt to other people.
It surprised me how much I got out of it (the meetings), so quickly. I can tell that I've become more open at my job and I dare say what I think. I'm not nearly as afraid to say something wrong as I used to be".

Another women at the meeting was 53 year old Monica Skön, who is now coming out of a deroute that started with a divorce nine years ago.
"I've learned to live in the present. I've learned that a rejection doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you. And for me it all started when I learned to share my loneliness with others. Then it wasn't loneliness anymore and then freed ourselves from the taboo.
But the most important things is that I've learned to deal with being with other people in a much more natural way".

But back to the dinner. At some point it became to much for Charlotte Jensen. Tears began streaming down her face and she had to leave the table. She was comforted by Joan and was able to return to the table and Mary.

When Mary had left a blushing Charlotte Jensen said: "I could be myself. It's nice finally being able to rest within yourself".

Monica Skön said: "I simply told about myself without considering whether I said something wrong. Just like we have been taught in the group".

- A good day and a little victory for both ladies.

The next project within the group is to establish relations outside the job. That means they will go to a cafe and here each will be tasked with chatting up a stranger. - That should be a surmountable task after having had Crown Princess Mary at the table, as the article points out.

- I hope you made it this far. I try and make these looong summaries as easy to read as possible and hopefully not too boring. :p

A good article:
Kronprinsesse Mary pakkede rygsække til krisecentre | Billund | jv.dk

Every year since 2008 has the Mary Foundation packed 2,300 thousands backpacks to the children at Denmark's crisis centers.

Mary said today:

- It's quite basic things we packs in their backpacks, because children in shelters are often escaped with their mother without getting anything with them. In the backpack, there is the most necessary and things that the emergency shelters can use for the difficult conversation, so children can start with a necessary healing process.

Mary helped packing all the many thousands backpacks and there was a relaxed and good atmosphere.

There was no reasons to be nervous. Crown Princess Mary is so easy to talk with, she is so straightforwardly, said Ingelise Damgaard, who after 26 years at Lego retired five years ago and since she has helped to pack the Mary Foundation's backpacks.

Inge Bladt has been a legonist for eight years and is "accompanying wife" to a man who worked for Lego for 42 years. She was happy with the task of packing with the Crown Princess.

"She is very interesting to talk to and this is a nice and important project," she said.

Such great pictures from todays event. Mary makes it look easy and fun. I loved her style today, very relaxed.

I'm always struck by how uniformly positive all different kinds of people are in their descriptions about Mary. She goes out of her way to make people feel at ease, she's easy to talk to, she's knowledgeable, etc. When you think about it, Mary took a risk when she decided to become so deeply involved with her various initiatives. There's no hiding who you really are when you sit down with people for an hour or so and actually talk to them. And I think the risk paid off given how respected and loved she's become in Denmark.

A worthy cause, to be sure. But...red rabbits? What happened to the familiar purple teddy bears? :ermm:

IMO it's because she chose to become so deeply committed to various causes that paid off. If you are not genuine, if you are not hands on, the it shines through, and you are quickly found out in a small country. I know some detracters of fond of referring to Mary almost super-human PR-bureau, but it doesn't work in a small country, too many people personally someone in the know.

The purple teddy bears are connected with the Free of Bullying project.
This event was about another project of the Mary Foundation. The backbags which were filled here are distributed to children in crisis centers, staying there after having to leave their homes, with their mothers, because of violence in the family.

Unofficial work: Mary Foundation's workshop on Wednesday the 31st May :flowers:

"In the Mary Foundation we gathered on Wednesday leading professionals for a full day workshop about Greenland. Since the establishment of the Mary Foundation,
it has been natural to include Greenland in our work. We work to combat social isolation - also in Greenland, and as the Crown Princess summed up today's workshop, i

Two events again today for Crown Princess Mary.

This morning, Crown Princess Mary hold a conference with the Mary Foundation and Trygfonden about social exclusion in Denmark with the purpose of qualifying the debate on how communities are opened up to the people who are on the edge of or outside the community.

The Mary Foundation Facebook:

"Denmark is a small country and our cohesion is great. Our community has a good starting point, but we must not forget that the community does not necessarily come from itself. The community is our responsibility, we are the community - and we can all do ours to open up the communities by meeting people with openness, respect and positive expectations. "

- The Crown Princess reminded us that we are all in charge of the community as she held the opening speech at the Mary Fund and Tryg Fund's conference on social exclusion today.

Today Crown Princess Mary holds and participates in her annual and popular Free from Bullying Children's Relay with the Mary Foundation in Fælledparken, Copenhagen :flowers:

Every year the record for the number of children increases - today 2000 children were registered attending in Copenhagen alone.

Just watched a nice feature in the early TV2 News tonight, hope it will be online later...

Mary told (in splendid Danish) that this years's relay had focus on the parents! How they talk to each other, and how they behave etc. Cause the children will learn from them!

Mary also told about her mother-in-law's and father-in-law's Gold Wedding today, and about last Sunday's party. It was very festive and cozy and they had a lovely day.

ADDED:

An example of how useful a Crown Princess can be:

- The Free From Bullying Project is created by Crown Princess Mary.

- It is highly acknowledged and all studies show that it helps.

- Crown Princess Mary's Free From Bullying is now integrated into 50% of all Denmark's kindergartens and schools. (My children have it integrated in both their nursery and kindergarten)

- Every year, the Mary Foundation and Red Children's popular Free From Bullying Children's Relay set records for the number of participating children - this year, nearly 2000 participating children alone in Copenhagen.

Crown Princess Mary can be a bit proud, can she?

Thanks, Roskilde, Iceflower & Eya :flowers:

Yes, it was on the news as well, so more clips can be expected.

Mary took part in the warm-up, before the children darted along. She wasn't the only one to present medals for completing the run, but unsurprisingly the longest queue was where Mary was.

I hope you can watch this TV2 video: https://www.tv2lorry.dk/artikel/1800-boern-loeb-med-mary-vi-siger-nej-til-mobning
Where Mary is talking about the purpose of the relay and the focus on how the parents behave. - As described in Roskilde's post above.
She also said the family had had a good and cozy time when they celebrated the Regent Couple's golden anniversary Monday.

------------------------------

She's got that one right!

A number of parents are downright nuts! Some are over-protective curling parents, other are over-ambitious, which is just as bad!
I've had several... frank exchanges of opinions... with some of these parents over the years. :bang:
Which is why Mrs. Muhler was in charge of most of the events where we parents were involved with our children at school. She's more diplomatic - until she gets angry. :censored::hiding:

"It's so easy to walk by. To close the eyes of other people's problems. But the moment we dare to interfere with each other's lives and inquire - also for what is difficult, we grow up as people and as a community, "said the Crown Princess, among other things, in her welcome speech, where the guests were also thanked for their confidence and support over the years."

The older Frederik gets, the handsomer and handsomer he becomes. I think he looks great with stubble. Not a full beard, but just a bit of growth. He has such a baby face, that he kind of needs it. Mary of course, looks amazing. I LOVE that dress. Congrats to HRH for her foundation's 10th anniversary.
