The wintery jacket is just fine. Besides, she doesn't seem to be on an official visit/duty.

But what is that 'blanket' in the 2nd photo? Is this supposed to look elegant or regal?

I don't like Mathilde's coat in the second picture. It reminds me of a Native American blanket. I think those kinds of blankets are nice, but worn as coats. Her puffy jacket looked nice, like she was warm and stylish and ready to play in the snow or go skiing.

Two pictures of the outfit underneath the cape. It’s a nice looking pantsuit, already worn in 2006. I’m not a fan of the cape and scarf combo either, she could have worn something nicer; but since it was just a cover up for the few minutes outsides it’s sort of okay imo.

If this was underneath that ugly coat, what can I say? Wow, who would have thought of that? Very elegant choice. It also fits Mathilde perfectly!

Mathilde doesn't have to look elegant and regal all the time, IMO she only looks regal when she's wearing a tiara and a long flowing gown.
This was an off day for a daytime outfit.

I don't follow DVF but this was definitely a rather unfortunate choice for Mathilde.
I agree with Al Bina here: I can't get the idea behind those shiny fabrics lately. Christmas is over a long time ago...

I know I'm in the minority, but I like the second coat, for some reason it appeals to me. The black pants suit ensemble was very classy yet there was some casualness to it so as not to be too fussy.

This ensemble is Russian themed. Overall, I like the colour and style. At the same time, detailing on the sleeves was too much. The form of a headpiece(hat?) was flattering.

Although she has been wearing too much grey lately, the suit is elegant. I liked the clutch and her hair too. A nice overall look this time.
