I am happy to have learnt a new word - Zeitgeist. Do our German members ever hear this word being used much these days? Or is it too old fashioned a word?
I don't know about German but the word Zeitgeist is frequently used in english. A very useful word for just the reason the explanation above cites.

I love the dress! Mary looks amazing! Are there any pictures of the dress without the jacket?

Lovely event to see the couple attending also sounds like a nice event for the evening.
I liked Mary's warm colors in her outfit.

And we have this:
Summary of article in Billed Bladet #38, 2011.
Mary og Frederiks arabiske aften - Mary and Frederik's Arabian evening.
Written by Dorte Quist.

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Carsten Nieburh's expedition to Arabia (*) there was a celebration in the DR network's culturehouse, in the foyer to be exact, which had been turned into an Arabian bazaar.
Here a concert was to be held.
M&F arrived half an hour before the concert were to begin to have a look at the market. Among those they met was their carpet dealer or carpet salesman or whatever a carpet tradesman is called. His name is Boris Zeichner and he specialise in oriental carpets. He said: "We now each other, because the CP couple has for many years bought carpets from me.
The CP couple always choose Persian knitted carpets and now they need carpets in a couple of rooms more and an underlaying base for those carpets I've sold them previously. So I'm going to Amalienborg again, to get an impression of colors, sizes and style in the new rooms. Then I'll show up afterwards with some carpets, which they choose from".

(*) In the early 1700's Arabia was practically unknown land for the Europeans and certainly from a scientific and anthropological point of view.
In 1761 Carsten Niebuhr and and six other scientists were send out on an expedition to Arabia by King Frederik V.
Carsten Nieburh returned seven years later as the sole survivor. He wrote a book titled: "The Happy Arabia". And the notes from the expedition were pretty sensational at the time. It was solid scientific work. Carsten Niebuhr seems to have had a very positive experience with the Arabian cultures.

Jægerkorpset = the army special forces turn 50 this year and that is celebrated this week.

Mary and Frederik will attend a parade at their base at Airstation Aalborg.
The parade will take place around 13.00 Tuesday 1st. November. After that there will be speeches.
There will also be a reception when the show has ended but the press will not have access.
Except for the colonel and the second in command, all faces of the members of special forces must be blurred, so we can expect some editing to take place, before the pictures are published.

There will also be a "public excersize" at Aalborg Harbour on 5th November. Here QMII will attend, but let's save that for the time being.

Another gallery from JyskeVestkysten: jv.dk - Aktuelle nyheder fra Syddanmark - Nyheder - Indland - Se billederne: Frederik og Mary fejrede jægerkorpset

Without childish captions....

ADDED: Article from Nordjyske: Kronprinspar til jægerjubilæum - Aalborg - Nordjyske.dk

I notice that Caroline Heering is Mary's LiW today.
Notice that Frederik, in contrast to most officers and soldiers present, does not wear skill badges on the right side of his chest. - Who needs to flaunt skill badges when you are a sailor?
The adjutant accompanying M&F is the head of QMII's staff of adjutants. - On loan to M&F.

I see they arrived in one of the Challengers. Makes sense as the Defence chief and at least one more general were also to visit the special forces.
Former members were also invited. Notice the horn on the maroon beret. You are IIRC on probabtion for a year before you become fully fledged "jæger" and earn the horn.
All officers are wearing the full dress uniform, also Frederik - delighting one or two members on this forum, eh?
jv.dk - Aktuelle nyheder fra Syddanmark - Nyheder - Indland - Se billederne: Frederik og Mary fejrede jægerkorpset
This picture is interesting for two reasons. Notice the soldier with orange beret in the background, he's from the military police. The civillian Frederik is talking to is B.S. Christiansen, also a former member of the corps. It was he who trained Frederik free fall parachuting.
B.S. Christiansen is very much a household name in DK. He holds the unique distinction of being labelled the best soldier in NATO by no less than the commander of SACEUR. I.e. the American general who is the military commander of NATO. B.S. Christiansen served with the general as a kind of sergeant major in the 90's, hence the flattering description.
He currently best known as just B.S. here in DK - said without any irony at all.

Jægerkorpset = the army special forces, can trace it's origin much further back than 1961. Regiments of jägers were common in European armies by the late 1700's. Where they fought as a mix of light infantry, skirmishers, scouts, sharpshooters and other tasks which demanded more than usual stamina and initiative. Also then did they wear the jägerhorn as a symbol of their status.
The first two Danish corps of jägers were formed in 1785, and they first fought against British troops laying siege to Copenhagen in 1807.
Interestingly, apart from being soldiers they also served as woodsmen in the king's forests or as clerks, which meant they had to have brains as well as muscles. On top of that, they were also required to "be good looking".....

Good morning Muhler, Did the famous Anders Lassen belong to the Jaegercorp. And would you describe the Jaegercorp as being the equivalent of the SAS.

Godmorning to you, Tarlita. Slept well, I hope.

No, Anders Lassen belonged to Special Boat Service, which is the inspiration for the Frogman Corps.
Anders Lassen was killed in action in Northern Italy in 1945, earning his VC in the process.
Until ten fifteen years ago Jægerkorpset was very much comparable to the traditional SAS, (also in the anti-terror role) in predominantly being a long range recognossaince and sabotage unit. Mainly operating behind enemy lines, observing, often for several weeks. - That was the main role against the Warszaw Pact.
In recent years the role has changed so that it can now better be compared to the Green Berets, in the sense that they more and more operate in hostile territory both in civillian and in uniforms, more often than not cooperating with local allies. Now also as advisors. Basically counter insurgency.
The regular army has become so combat hardened that the extra edge the special forces could sometimes provide as light infantry is no longer necessary. (Raiding and hit and run operations were a specialty of SAS during WWII).

It has been suggested and it's likely that Jærgerkorpset and Frømandskorpset will be amalgamated as their roles and equipment very much overlap.

Thank you for that Muhler. I have read a lot of books written by ex Sas soldiers and they are a tight knit group. I believe in Britain the Special Boat Service is like an offshoot of the Sas. They also do very hazardous work. And yes Frederik is rather dashing in his uniform as are most men. I wonder what it is about a man in uniform that makes him looks special? Oh well, it works for most women.
