The Prince participated in the event as patron of the Danish Kennel Club, which saw 140 dogs compete for the title ‘Dog of the Year’, with two of his dachshunds, Helike and Querida.

“The Prince Consort has shown a charming winning mentality with which he has gained recognition and respect from the entire population of Denmark. Prince Henrik is both a dog owner and a big dog friend…and therefore it is very well deserved,” said Ulf Fjelsted Jorgensen on behalf of the Danish Kennel Club.

During the event, Prince Henrik read a poem and expressed his passion for dogs. He also unveiled a portrait of himself with one of his dachshunds.

Prince Henrik has recently been the topic of much discussion, after he made comments about not being given the title King during a press conference with Dutch reporters ahead of next month’s Dutch state visit. Read more about the Prince’s grievances here.
