The Danish Royal Court today revealed that the residence of Prince Joachim and his family, Schackenborg Castle, has been placed under the control of a foundation created to manage the castle, the estate and its farming commitments.

The Schackenborg Foundation has been created by Prince Joachim in conjunction with three other organisations: the Bitten and Mads Clausen Foundation, Ecco Holding and the Ole Kirk Foundation. The four founders each contributed to create a 113million Danish kroner capital (15million€), 13millionDKK which came from the Prince.

The official reason behind this decision is that the responsibilities of managing a large farming estate is “difficult to reconcile” with Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s official role and commitment as members of the royal family.

Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and their two children, Henrik and Athena, will be moving to Copenhagen, initially to their apartment at Amalienborg. They will also spend part of the year at Schackenborg.
