Death of Princess Luise of Prussia

Princess Luise of Prussia died at the age of 91 on 23. March at Bücekburg Castle.

She was born on 23.08.1917 as daughter of Prince Sigismund and his wife Marie Luise, née Princess of Schaumburg-Lippe, and was the last living member of the Prussian Royal Family to be born during the reign of Emperor Wilhelm II.

She was also the last member of the Prince Karl line – descending from the third son of King Friedrich Wilhelm III.

She was also the last of a long line of mother-daughter Luises:

Princess Luise of Prussia (1917-2009); Princess Marie Luise of Prussia, nee Princess of Schaumburg-Lippe (1897-1938); Princess Luise of Schaumburg-Lippe, née Princess of Denmark (1875-1906); Queen Lovisa of Denmark, née Princess of Sweden and Norway (1851-1926); Queen Louise of Sweden and Norway, née Princess of the Netherlands (1828-1871); Princess Luise of the Netherlands, née Princess of Prussia (1808-1870); and Queen Luise of Prussia, née Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1776-1810).

At the age of 9, Luise lost her father who died after a fall from his horse. In 1942, Princess Luise married Hans Reinhold but the marriage ended in divorce in 1949. They had one son. At the end of the 1950s, the Princess moved into a flat in the West Wing of Bückeburg Castle.
