What’s the occasion for this photosession?

Nothing special, just a change in time instead of,f.e. just a summer session.
Nice venue btw.

They couldn't have picked a more historic venue for the photos with the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam as the setting.

Oh indeed,I agree, and certainly now with the exhibition on his beloved grandmother Queen Juliana.

Indeed a nice background with the carriages etc in the background.

I really like these new photos.
The chosen location is very beautiful.

I feel like Amalia doesn't look happy in the latest set of pictures. On the other hand, it could be a projection because of what we know.

Would this be her normal face if everything was fine?

Maybe she is tired of this format? It sometimes feels a bit awkward

I wonder what the allure to Spain is. IIRC this is the family's 3rd visit in recent years.
Perhaps they should consider buying a home there. The family can practice their Spanish more, the weather in certain parts is nice, and it is somewhat closer than Greece.

Maybe to try to get to know Spanish future husbands for their 3 daughters with the Spanish nobility, after all the Dutch royals know a few Spanish noble families. Just guessing, don't take my opinion seriously.

King Willem-Alexander has commissioned independent research into the role of the House of Orange-Nassau in colonial history. The research takes three years to complete and covers the period from the late sixteenth century to the postcolonial present. On photo the accompanying committee.

:previous: Would this not begin with Willem I (Willem the Silent)? His reign started on July 26, 1581.

article (in dutch)
the part which answers your question

He thinks it is important that is published what we know about the role of the Royal House in colonial history.

"In-depth knowledge of the past is essential in order to understand historical facts and developments and to confront their impact on people and communities as clearly and honestly as possible," says the king.

They didn't elaborate much on the reason but in the near future official apologies for slavery will be given by the government, so it makes sense for the king as a historian to get ahead of questions about the role of the house of Orange.

See here for more information: https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/n...is-oranje-nassau-en-de-koloniale-geschiedenis

The committee that has been tasked with this research has a lot of experience in these areas. The chair of the committee is an emeritus professor in colonial and post-colonial history who already did an initial investigation on this topic, one of the other researchers is a specialist in Dutch colonial history in the Caribbean and Indonesia, the third one is a former parliamentarian from Surinamese descent (daughter of Suriname's first president) and well respected in both the Netherlands and Suriname as an expert on international relations and human rights and the final one is probably the most prominent full professor of Dutch History - and also the chair of the Dutch organization of historians and member of the KNAW (the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences).

Fun fact: I interviewed the last one as part of my doctoral research and he sounded just like one of my late uncles (you could clearly hear that they were from the same part of the Netherlands).

I think it makes sense to research it now, so it is clear. The government will indeed offer its apologies this month, so it is logical that the RF feels the need to look into this matter as well.

Apparently the King shortly answered a question by SBS. They asked him how his family will be watching the football match between Argentina and The Netherlands. The King said that they will not be watching it at all as Friday evening they will be celebrating the birthday of his eldest daughter.

I was wondering if they had spent either Christmas or New Years in Argentina!

It is difficult to see, she does not resemble any of the witnesses Máxima had during her wedding. Maybe a relative or a friend.

There seem to be 2 young men next to Amalia.

These visits to Madrid by Amalia are becoming more frequent and now her parents are also accompanying her.

Don't mind me sitting here in thr corner secretly praying that Amalia is dating a tall and and handsome Spanish aristocrat!!

I wonder if they met up secretly with King Felipe or Queen Letizia whilst in Madrid?

Not sure how close Maxima is with the SRF but her mother in law was.

I believe that Jan Taminiau also lives in Madrid these days and even has a shop there( before COVID struck at least, not sure how the shop is doing now). So maybe that could have been combined too.

Apparently they took the family dog, Mambo.

Let's hope so, but taking your mother along to such a handsome tall Spaniard probably would do much to ruin the date though ;). It must be the very last person you want there in such a situation.

Taminiau lives part time in Madrid with his partner Juan Várez, and has a workshop and store in the city. But he often travels to the Netherlands where he has his shop and workshop, so it wouldn't be necessary for them to travel.

Both Queen Máxima and Princess Amalia are fluent in Spanish and I can imagine that Madrid is for them, what London is for Queen Margrethe or Princess Beatrix.

I hope that Princess Amalia feels well. She has had a rocky year with threats against her by the "Mocro Mafia". As I am a stickler to a healthy lifestyle, her appearance, I do not know. King Harald V and King Willem-Alexander are the most voluminous royals, but at the age of his daughter he was quite athletic ( picture of WA in 1986 - 19 years old).

To my eye she looks not too happy and self-assured and I hope all is well with Princess Amalia - hopefully she has guidance and counsel.
