Will we also get informed if the baby is born late this evening?

As long as he or she is born before 10:30 PM (UK time). Otherwise, we have to wait until tomorrow morning for the official announcement.

She's been at the hospital almost 12 hours now. And you usually have to wait until you're about 4cm [or something near there] gone I think before they'll admit you, I'm not sure though if that's the same thing for Kate or not. So here's for hoping that we haven't got much longer to wait.

Does anyone have any idea how much time will pass between the baby being born and the formal announcement being brought to Buckingham Palace?

I thinke it´s not the same with Kate. Probably she went to hospital when she felt the first contractions....She will be looked after mucher more than usual women. Also the statement " early labour" could mean that....

If he/she is born after 10:30pm, we'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to find out, probably around about 8:00am

Miguel and Rebecca the Cambridges private secretaries are inside the hospital. They are going to keep both sides informed during the labor.

"Every man or woman who marries into this house, every child born into it, has to put their gifts at the family's disposal."

From Downton Abbey but it is very accurate to the Windsors. Once he or she comes down the shoot, his or her life is not really their own in very many ways.

Is someone supposed to inform the press outside the hospital that the notice has been put up outside the palace when the baby is born? Will they show footage of the easel and announcement being put up? What is the protocol for this?

Why? Why wouldn't they just post the announcement whenever they knew? I'd think they'd post it right away - otherwise they might be afraid of some nurse or janitor or whoever leaking the info to the press.

CNN's royal expert is a hack! Where do they find these people? Certainly not at the Royal Forums!

If Kate is having the "natural" birth she said she wanted, she may not be flat on her back with her feet up in stirrups. Sitting up, even walking around, is more normal for natural births unless they are very quick. It is not a normal position to give birth on your back. Squatting is normal in many primitive cultures. Induction puts an end to the mother's ability to have natural birth, so I hope that isn't happening.

They're only posting during daytime hours basically - the pomp to it isn't fun when it's 3AM and the guns go off.

:previous:Exactly.Not just for Windsors..All RFs..

@HelloMag is reporting that Carole and Pippa are not, in fact, at the hospital already. #RoyalBaby

The announcement will leave the front door of the hospital wing [where the world press is] and will travel by car to the palace, so the press has no chance of missing it. I'm pretty sure every news station has a second presenter/camera at the palace waiting for the announcement to come up

Ok the announcement will be made in the morning. But what about the "sign"? Will the guy leaving hospital for palace with notice stay till the morning?
It will be bad if we come to know that birth has occured but donno what baby it is..

Oh, thank you! I'll keep watching the hospital door footage then.

the media is so excited and confused...like headless chickens with laptops. poor dears.

When I had my first, my husband and I wanted to have one/one and a half hour for privacy (the three of us alone) to know each other.
My daughter does that same sugestion to her patients.
A lot of them like it that way.
So even when the child is born it could take a few hours before we outsiders know

We'll know a baby has been born when one of Kate's officials emerges from the Lindo Wing with a medical bulletin in their hands #RoyalBaby

Peter Hunt ‏@BBCPeterHunt 6m
The medical bulletin will be carried from the Lindo Wing to Buck Palace by Ed Perkins -- William and Kate's Press Secretary. #RoyalBaby

#BabyCambridge's birth will be confirmed when a press officer emerges with birth announcement that will be transferred to Buckingham Palace

Peter Hunt ‏@BBCPeterHunt 2m
And for those who have queried, the medical bulletin will be on a foolscap sheet of paper rather than A4. #RoyalBaby

Mark Stewart ‏@RegalEyes 1m
#BabyCambridge announcement will then be displayed on the same easel that bore news of Prince William's birth in forecourt of Buck Palace

@WhatKateWore Press Officer is expected to leave main entrance and get into a waiting car to travel to BP once the baby has been born.

The sign is the announcement. The notice on the easel at BP is how they're planning on announcing the birth, and they've said they'll only be doing that between 8AM and 10:30PM.

If the baby is born after 10:30PM we won't find out until the next morning.

i got told kate was in hospital at work this afternoon, seeing how long it's taking i'm glad i found out late. so excited to find out whether it is a boy or a girl!

Will we also get informed if the baby is born late this evening?

i think they will only release press notes until 10:30pm. however, i very much doubt the labour will extend until the night, seeing she was admitted early in the morning.

It common for peoples to be in Labor 24 Hours or more.

it is part of the 'natural experience' she wants. wonder how that's seeming to her about now...:D

I imagine William in there holding Catherine's hand (she breaking his hand) and just helping her get through this.

I think we will survive until the announcement.

If I am understanding protocol, the person carrying the official message must do so between 8:00 am and 10:30 pm. This is of course the protocol for the official announcement. As said above, William has a cell phone.

They have to tell the Queen first and the Queen isn't being woken up. That is why there is no announcement after 10:30 PM UK time.

I'm sure she's probably threatening him too...oh to be a fly on the wall...:whistling:

she might be doing the old:

son of a--what have you done to me? this is all you fault!! never again, you hear me. you are sleeping on the couch or so help me...

-hours later-

*angels are singing as she stares at her beautiful baby....he or she is the only thing in the world at this moment*

I almost strangled my husband with the wet cloth they gave me for baby #2 !
