Mary seemed very pensive today but it was maybe the occasion. Just not like her!

As one of the articles iceflower and Blog Real posted mentions a female Home guard soldier had died during her watch last night. This cast a sad shadow over the jubilee event, there was 1 minute of silence and Mary had to change her speech at the last moment.

Plus it seems the guard died of cardiac arrest which inevitably has to bring up memories of how her mother passed as well. So I am not surprised of she was pensive.

That's because she was pensive.
A female member of the Home Guard (my guess says the Police Home Guard) died from a heart attack while on active duty during the night. So a minute of silence was observed in her honor.

- The Police Home Guard perform duties in assisting the police in various basic functions, freeing regular police officers for other duties they are better qualified for. Regulating traffic, guarding crime scenes and other very routine but still essential jobs where a regular police officer to put it bluntly would be over-qualified.

Sorry I was not aware of the sad occurrance. I apologise for my post.

A great event and celebration that had to be changed a bit due to the unexpected death last night of the soldier. I'm sure all were affected.
Mary did great, and seeing that she is part of the Home Guard, it makes perfect sense that she was the one to take part.
"The Queen began as a private in the Home Guard in 2008. After training, Her Majesty became a sergeant in the Home Guard 2009, lieutenant in the Home Guard 2009, first lieutenant in the Home Guard 2015, captain in the Home Guard in 2019 and honorary major in the Home Guard in 2023"

Blog from BT with a sighting of Frederik earlier
"Before today's event at the Freedom Museum, King Frederik was spotted running past wearing a hat and with a dog by his side.
Svend Erik Nørklit from the Home Guard tells BT that there was a joke among the Home Guard volunteers whether it was Queen Mary who had sent the King out to inspect the place.
Svend Erik Nørklit has previously been in the life guard and adds that in this connection he has met King Frederik several times."

Great gallery from the Home Guards

Okay, I hope that's true because that's sweet as heck.

"Honey, go jog past the Freedom Museum for me. Let me know if it looks okay."

Those two are adorbs.

No need to apologize IMO.
You merely asked and now you know, right? :)

A bit gutted not to see Mary in uniform (I know the majority on here is interested in seeing Frederik all uniformed up but in this abode, we're all about Major Mary looking smashing in her Home Guard attire 😅) but what a great speech! I love her affiliation with the Home Guard.

And somewhat unrelated: If anyone has plans of visiting Copenhagen, I can highly recommend a visit to the Freedom Museum which is English-friendly and right around the corner from both Amalienborg and The Little Mermaid :D

Mary rocks the uniform indeed! I was expecting her to wear it but don't know too much about military protocol.
I love that she did the training and now has the affiliation with the Home Guards. Perfect representation.
Thanks for the tip on the Freedom Museum

I love the fact too that she earned it. It isn't just some honorary role handed to her. When she wears her uniforms she's done the work. I also love that she shows respect for those uniforms, for the Home Guard and the work they do. Very impressive. Not every royal woman would take the time to do that work and training and many don't.

This man is protesting about the gates to the deer-park. They are in his opinion not bicycle-friendly. Presumably meaning that he will have to get down from his two wheels and walk - on his feet mind you - in order to open the gates, and close them. The affront, the horror. Many cyclists get confused if they have to walk. Anyway, he blames the Minister, Magnus Heunicke and not Queen Mary.
The extremely popular Deer Park was originally intended as private hunting ground for the kings but over time has become a favorite place for Copenhageners to enjoy nature. The park has a very thriving population of red deer and they breed like they were paid for it. But a lot of other animals also live there, including a number of insects, birds and what not that have become more scarce in DK, simply due to a lack of suitable habitat - and being allowed to be undisturbed. That can be a problem in city parks!
So now the Deer Park has been expanded by 25 % or the equivalent of 1.700 soccer fields. And symbolically Queen Mary let loose a few red deer in their new home - where they will no doubt be fine and breed like mad.
But more importantly most of the park will be left alone, I.e. trees and shrubbery will only be cut down if they block paths or are in danger of breaking and hitting someone on the head. And otherwise left to rot, providing excellent habitat for all sorts of insects and small animals - not to mention the birds who feast on such critters.

BTW. The Deer Park is very familiar with long-time members here, because it's where the annual Hubertus Chase takes place and the home of the Eremitage Slot.

Unannounced event today
"Mental dissatisfaction is a major challenge among our children and young people. 15% receive a psychiatric diagnosis before they turn 18, according to the Danish Health Authority. And although mental illness can affect anyone, it can be difficult to ask for help and to find the right support or treatment.
Today I met with the Psychiatry Foundation and the Novo Nordisk Foundation, who have teamed up to create better help for children and young people with mental illnesses requiring treatment. I first heard about their partnership at the conference "A world-class child and adolescent psychiatry" in November, where I also had the opportunity to speak to some of the skilled professionals in the field.
I look forward to following the further work with one of the great challenges of our time.
✍️H.M. The queen."

Very important issue! Great to see Queen Mary getting involved. I believe she just had an engagement added for next week visiting a psychiatric hospital which seems to be in-line with her meeting today. Great to also get photos of her meetings today!

Proper mental health care is as much a struggle in the United States as it is anywhere else in the world. I'm glad to see QMary highlighting this. Maybe if it were easier to get, more people would avail themselves of it.

It is a genuine problem.
And it's very difficult to handle, not least because specialists in treating children and adolescent with psychological problems and/or mental issues don't grow on trees. So the waiting list to even begin to be properly diagnosed is long and only then treatment can begin in earnest. And for some that's too late. They have committed suicide, their condition has worsened beyond repair so to speak, or they have lost several crucial years of their childhood or youth - and you don't get those formative years back.
There has been a dramatic rise in the number of children and young with all sorts of issues in the last couple of decades.
I think that is down to a number of factors:
There is much more focus on such issues and there is less stigma to having such issues nowadays and that is of course a good thing.
Beforehand such issues were either left untreated and people somehow recovered or learned to live with it, or they didn't. Or they were hushed up and in some cases the family took care of such a person - not always in kind ways, mind you! O r they simply ended up in an institution somewhere and were de facto forgotten and/or medicated into zombies.

Personally I think a good deal of the rise can be attributed to instant access to everybody and everything 24/7/365. And we humans are not designed to be on all the time. Example: Children who are being bullied can't escape their bullies simply be being at home. The bullies are on the phone and on the social platforms.
Also, there is a lot to be concerned about and a lot who aim to make you concerned. We are not designed for that either. We are basically only designed to be concerned about shelter, food and our immediate social group. Beforehand children and young might, repeat might, watch the evening news on TV with mum and dad at the evening coffee - i.e. in a fairly protected environment with adults around. - Now you can be troubled by news from all corners of the planet.
So it's no wonder young people today, who haven't been hardened like most adults, develop all sorts of anxieties and what not.

Queen Mary received Ukraine's First Lady Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska at Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg, today, April 15.

Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska is visiting Denmark in connection with the government's Ukraine Investment Forum, which was held today in Industriens Hus. At the event, the first lady gave an opening speech. The purpose of the Ukraine Investment Forum is to bring together Danish companies that are interested in contributing to the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Wonderful reunion. The Queen, the first Lady of Ukraine, and the Prime Minister of Denmark's husband. Would he be First Gentleman?

Post from the First Lady of Ukraine.

The Royal Family of Denmark supports Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. During the visit to Denmark last year, we and the President of Ukraine had the honor to meet with Her Majesty Queen Margrette II.
📍
and today glad to meet already with her majesty the queen of Denmark.
Like her entire family, the Queen of Denmark is active public activity, including patronizing over 30 organizations, including humanitarian aid, healthcare, women's rights.
🤝
Grateful to the Royal Family for having Denmark as one of our largest and most reliable partners in all endeavors."

More likely First Dude.
Unless the male counterparts to female PMs and heads of states starts to wear dresses and sport interesting hairdos, they will be relegated to the dude who walks in the background.
Alas, life is both unfair and politically incorrect. :giggle:

I've heard the husband of V.P. Harris called 2nd Gentleman.

Yes, it has now been added to the calendar. Makes sense that it wasn't announced beforehand.
Very unfortunate that the president of Argentina cancel his visit to Denmark and audience with Frederik. A diplomatic no-no n my book.
