The Queen looks fantastic

A very nice outing for Mary, even though Denmark lost. I'm sure Frederik would have attended if not for the whole new King position . Although Mary has gone to support the men's handball team abroad before, I remember her in Spain with Felipe.

It was a very even match. The picture here was taken just before the second half started.

What a finale….

Well fought, Denmark. It was up close and nerve-wracking to witness. It has been an impressive effort that you have all made at the European Championship.

Congratulations on the silver medal�� which I had the honor to present.

It was a surprise to German officials as well. They didn't know until Sunday if Margarethe or Mary would attend. There was a lot of coverage in our local papers and TV station.

It was very nice and important for one of the Danish royals to support the team! Unfortunately they lost the game. When it comes to "Handball" I am always for the Danish team

It is not surprising considering that, as I mentioned before using Queen Elizabeth II's marriage certificate as evidence, Queen Ingrid did not use the post-nominal 'R' letter either, although her husband, King Frederik IX, did.

"The health and rights of girls and women have been a priority in Denmark's international work for many years. For 15 years, Her Majesty The Queen has supported the Danish efforts to reduce maternal mortality and has monitored global developments in the area.

The Queen was briefed today on the status of maternal mortality at a meeting with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish organisation Maternity Foundation. Among other things, it was discussed how partnerships, innovative approaches and digital solutions can contribute to women, wherever they live, have access to safe pregnancy and childbirth."

I had thought the same thing! I hope this meeting means that she will retain the UNFPA and Maternity Foundation as patronages. She has done so much work with them over the years and both organizations are very much in line with the work of her own foundation and the causes she's championed for year in Denmark and abroad!

Today the Queen received Director General of the United Nations Environment Organization (UNEP), Inger Andersen, who briefed on UNEP's work to promote biodiversity and nature protection globally.
At the meeting, Her Majesty received, among other things, a briefing about this year's UN Environment Assembly, UNEA, which brings together world environment ministers every two years in Nairobi, Kenya. The assembly took place at the end of February and had, among other things, plastic pollution in the world's oceans on the agenda."

That is a genuine problem and something I have noticed in my lifetime. Especially in regards to insects. There are not that many insects anymore - and keep in mind that I live in a rural village.
When you were going for a drive on a high-summer day, the windscreen would often be pretty messy with insects that had been smashed against the glass and you would very often have to clean your windscreen several times a week. You don't see that anymore.
Butterflies, there were loads of them around when I was a child and of course we children had butterfly nets and caught some of them. If you can even find a butterfly nowadays, you tell children to be careful not to hurt it and gently let it go if they catch one. And when a butterfly ventures inside your home (the stupid critters can't figure out how to fly out again) you take care to catch and turn it lose outside.
- Because we need those winged pests for out plants, flowers and agriculture.
Hence why wild-gardens or patches of wilderness in gardens have become so widespread in recent years, including in Queen Mary's garden at Fredensborg. It provides a small place for insects to live - and also be eaten.

When I was a child hedges would be alive with birds and they were singing their beaks off! Now it's more solo-acts by the odd songbird.
Farms used to be a haven for birds. Swallows would live a great life inside the pigsty or cowshed, because there was always a cracked window somewhere, the birds could enter.
Owls loved to live under the roof of barns or on an attic (always a cracked window somewhere). Now the farm buildings are too well-build and there are few entry points for birds, even at ecological farms.
There is also an increased migration of wildlife towards the towns and cities. That has been going on for generations, but it has become more pronounced in recent years. Foxes, badgers and red deer are of course still a very common sight for we who live in villages, but now you can also find them in urban parks, not just the suburbs.

- So yes, diversity or lack of it is a genuine problem today.

On the day the Crown Princess Mary Center officially changes its name to Queen Mary's Center, Her Majesty The Queen visited the center, which is located at the University of Copenhagen.

The center opened in February 2022 on the occasion of the Queen's 50th birthday and the Queen Marys Center is a multidisciplinary science centre that finds new solutions to current social challenges through partnerships between researchers and practitioners. The center is created by the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, Theological and Law at the University of Copenhagen. In addition to naming the center, the Queen is affiliated with the center's "Advisory Committee", which has an advisory function in relation to the center's resolution.

During today's visit, the Queen received a status on the center's achievements and experiences after the first two years of life as well as the visions for the coming years.
