Several news outlets are reporting that Prince Albert's private plane was seen arriving at Kajaani airport (central/northern Finland) yesterday (Tuesday, 20 September) at 4 p.m. There he was greeted by a Russian reception committee and he got into a car with Russian diplomatic plates. According to newspapers Prince Albert crossed the border to Russia on Tuesday at Vartius border crossing point. From there he continued his journey to Kostomuksha. The Prince stayed in Kostomuksha only a short time and continued the journey to another place in Russia. According to a local paper he is now in Arkhangelsk. The reason for the trip is not known but it is suspected the Prince might have some business arrangements in the area.

Oh, so the information has been updated. At the time when I posted, there was very little information available and I couldn't find any news sources reporting this. There weren't any articles in English either. Now the "mystery" has been solved! :lol: But you do have to admit it did sound a little mysterious at first... ;)

That IS A great surprise! And he looks really good too. :) Isn't his (King Juan Carlos) grandmother Albert's godmother? Or Albert's godmother was somehow related to King Juan Carlos, right?
 
I *think* it was the King's grandmother. But i'm not sure.
Victoria Eugenia de Battemberg is his grandmother...she is Juan Carlos' grandmother, right?

JC must be feeling better if was able to flight to Monaco.

Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain was Prince Alberts godmother.Her grandson is King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
 
It would surprise me if JC's grandmother were still living.

Her Majesty Queen Victoria Eugenia passed away in 1969.

I've alluded to this in other posts but it really does seem that since Albert married Charlene the other European Royals ( I mean the big hitters not minor princes and ex-monarchs) seem really keen to be friends with the Monaco family. Even during Ranier's years on the throne, expect perhaps during the 1960's, Monaco seemed a bit distant from the others in the Royal "club" but not now. Personally I am thrilled about this as I love PA and PC so I am enjoying seeing them integrate with all the other major Royals and I hope in continues.:flowers:

The turnaround started years ago. There have been comments on this board and others about how much travel PA does. It seemed that he was constantly on the road going to various events and areas. He is quite good at initializing and developing relationships.

Prince Rainier's mission was to put the principality in order (starting in the 1940s) by bringing in more revenue and getting infrastructure projects started and complete. PA is continuing this process and expanding it through his own projects. Also under PA's guidance in the past decade or so, I believe there have been more embassies and consulates set up on a reciprical basis than ever before. He has a multifaceted plan that he's implementing quite well.

Prince Albert's foundation, The Prince Albert II Foundation developed the Wood Forever program. The purpose of this new venture “… aims to accompany the yacht builders towards the use of timber from sustainably managed forests.”

During the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show the famous yacht building company, Burger Boats, became the first official member of the Wood Forever program:

Burger signed a partnership agreement and committed to analyze their wood supply chain in order to be able to develop a sustainable wood purchasing policy and, doing so, fight deforestation.

Yesterday, the palace said that Prince Albert will make a speech for the defense of the environement at Evian and he will attend to the the gala of the evening which will finish this event. But the palace did not say that Charlene will attend to this gala, it spoke only about of the prince.

The Prince will take part in the second international forum entitled “The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue”* to be held from 21st to 24th September 2011 in Arkhangelsk, in Russia.

On Thursday 22nd September 2011, the Prince will speak alongside Mr Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Mr Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of the Republic of Iceland.
This year, they will focus in particular on the subject of transport in this area.
This forum, organised by the Russian Geographical Society, will bring together representatives from the member countries of the Arctic Council, scientists and specialists in this region.
It will once again allow all these people to discuss the environmental and energy challenges of the Arctic and strengthen their cooperation.

He attends the DOSB (Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund/German Olympic Sports Confederation)
celebrations of 30 years Olympic Congress on September 28, 2011 in Baden-Baden, Germany.
