King Constantine has passed away - January 10, 2023

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I was shocked to see Marie Chantal and Queen Letizia arm-in-arm. I'm not sure if it's a publicity stunt or if the two women have genuinely reconciled.
I'm also impressed by the turnout of the Spanish grandkids. It's good they are all there to pay respects to their grand uncle. Was it announced that Leonor or Sofia would be attending?
Well the incident was old news. Plus there are bigger concerns like the coming together of the families in mourning for the beloved father, uncle, brother, cousin, grandfather. I would say they are cordial at this stage and they have probably talked privately before the pictures and all.

Both women strike me as too proud and dignified to engage in publicity stunts.

They are well educated middle aged women married into a family that has spats and quarrels just like any other...except that family is Royal and public.

I doubt that they are truly close or will ever be, but I am happy to see them together.

Now, I am wondering about Cristina and Letizia.....:whistling:

The procession has begun. In 15 minutes people can start to bid farewell to King Konstantinos at the Chapel of Agios Eleftherios, and there's already a queue!

The body of the former King Constantine will lie from 6:00 to 10:30 in the morning at the chapel of Agios Eleftherios.

Afterwards, the funeral service will take place at 12:00 noon at the Metropolitan Church of Athens and the burial will follow in Tatoi.

The family has asked guests to donate to foundations, in lieu of a wreath.
According to information, his son Pavlos will deliver a eulogy. The coffin will be carried by Pavlos with Nikolaos and the two eldest sons of Pavlos.

Archbishop Hieronymos will stand at the Beautiful Gate, while on the right and left there will be 6 plus 6, respectively, Synodical Metropolitans.

To the right and left before the Despotic Throne will stand the Choir of the Temple.

To the right of the casket and in front of the Despotic Throne will stand the family.

To the left of the family will be:

- Current Heads of State
- Former kings
- Heirs to the throne

In particular, in the first row from the right will be the family of the deceased, i.e. the wife of the former King Constantine, Anna Maria, his children Alexia, Pavlos, Nikolaos, Theodora and Philip.

Next to their nieces will sit the former Queen of Spain, Sofia, and the former Princess of Greece, Irene, the sisters of the late King Constantine.

Behind them will stand the rest of the family, about 30 people grandchildren and cousins.

What an incredible outpour of affection, I'm teary eyed and I can't imagine what the family is feeling. In your face, Greek government! :kingdomofgreece:

Some more photos from Tatoi's express makeover. Unbelievable how much they were able to CLEAN in just 3 days.

The DRF's Instagram has uploaded some very beautiful photos of Konstantinos. Queen Sofía has the best photos though, if only the SRF could post some...

By carefully watching the pics of the guests for the dinner i think it is not a Hotel Grande Bretagne but in Hotel King George near.
Otherwise why guest staying at the hotel step outside ? They should just take the elevator.
Also the entrance of Grande Bretagne is near the corner of the street, but pics show they entrance from which they step out seems in the middle.
So definitely dinner at hotel King George.

Has that black and white flag/cloth on the coffin any meaning?

In contrast I wonder if Alexia and MC ever have spoken to each other. I can' t remember them ever been seen in a conversation or even arm-in-arm. And they are sisters -in-law after all...
They both remind me of Diana/Anne...

???
The pall is white and blue because those are the colours of the Greek flag...
Here it can be seen clearly:

The queue keeps getting longer and longer, by 10:30 not everyone would have been able to present their respects. Unbelievable scenes.

Hopefully I will be able to watch the entire service on tape delay later tomorrow.

Orthodox wedding and burial rites are always so beautiful and moving.

The line to the chapel is apparently growing longer. It seems impossible for all of them to be able to make it.

It looks much better. Imagine how lovely it could have looked had there been a regular maintenance of the area. The family, Queen Sofia in particular, looked destroyed over the state of it in the pictures from the cemetery a few days ago.
If the government hadn't been so stubborn they could have given the family the responsibility of maintenance or even a 99-year lease to the family.

The line going around the block now, I think the government wanted to avoid this by making the lying-in-state (which is what this truly is tbh) VERY early but even then, there's a lot of people there.

Well, I've seen a few pics over the years tbh, they aren't besties (I think they are incredibly different, their lifestyles couldn't be more apart from each other) but they get along decently enough tbh, even if I'm sure they wouldn't be friends if they weren't related.

HERE BEFORE NIKOLAOS AND TATIANA'S WEDDING

A REALLY FUNNY PIC, FAMILY GATHERING

The people keep paying their respects, two exact hours left until the scheduled service begins. I guess so many will remain outside the Cathedral and escort the coffin out of the Historic Center.

Looove this video of King Konstantinos and Queen Anne-Marie sharing some anecdotes, including the legendary one about KK being locked in the toilet, the deadpan delivery made it too hilarious.?

According to the latest estimates, there are more than 1,300 people in the queue. Can you imagine what his family is feeling right now? After so many humiliations -that continued in the aftermath of his passing- the Greek people is now teaching a lesson to their politicians.

Btw, the wreaths outside the Cathedral are from King Felipe, doña Sofia, and the King and Queen of Sweden.

Princess Anne has arrived in Athens.

It's interesting to see how many people going through the line are young enough that they would barely remember King Constantine's reign. Many wouldn't even have been alive.

It backfired in their faces!Good.Wonderfull, and sad,to so the Greeks turnout in masses to honor the late King and the Family.

Yeah and like kalnel said, it's stunning to see how many young people are there and everyone kissing the coffin, I didn't really expect this tbh but I'm so glad he's getting the respect he's owed even if the governments had always disrespected him and his family.

Very nice to see the public turning out, especially after the disgraceful conduct of the government.

Very happy to see the long line to pay respects to the late King. I hope the Greek government is humiliated by the Greek people for its petty behaviour towards the late King. Do we have any estimates how many people paid their respects so far?

Saw an estimate above of over 1,300 in the queue, meaning significantly more people should have paid their respects, considering the quick pace of the queue.

And @fandesacs2003, what will you do if you can't manage to pay respects? Trying to gather how the crowds might be for the service.

LE:
We don't know. But it is not the Greek flag. Might be a mourning meaning.

Upon closer look at the coffin, it is indeed the Greek flag. Please confirm if you manage to get to the front.

Watch the videos of this dinner, in this blog. In the first we can see that Queen Anna Maria says goodbye , her son Filippos. The Guests staying at the Hotel walk to principal door. King Felipe, Queen Letizia, the family of Prince Pavlos are staying at the Grande Bretagna hotel, but King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia with Princess Irene, they are not staying at the hotel. In the second video Empress Farah appears, she is not staying at the hotel either. At the beginning of the video after Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedicta is Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark walking towards the hotel. And other guests Serbian, Romania, Russia, Hannover

Having QEII and King Constantine pass away within months of each other definitely feels like a huge end of an era. Seeing the photos coming out of Greece, with many young people paying their last respects is comforting, since young Greeks have an appreciation for their history. The Greek government really stuffed-up here - this should have been a state funeral.

Seeing the pictures of Tatoi being cleaned up just shows how worried the Greek government were in being seen as an international embarrassment! Why would you not look after historical buildings!?!?!?!

Oh, my schadenfreude is peaking right now knowing that the politicians had to see so many youngsters with Greek flags from the time of the reign of Konstantinos! If they had any dignity, they would have turned around. You and your stupid parties can not dictate how people feel, and this IS a State Funeral!

The wreaths sent by the DRF were by WA&M and the other one by Prince Constantijn who did not attend despite being godson of Konstantinos, and Princess Beatrix.

And with King Harald frail as a leaf. Queen Margrethe very healthy but about to be 83... Lord have mercy.

On my screen it is darkblue and white, looking like the Greek flag?

Well to begin with: give the loot back to the righful owners (in 1994 the royal estates were confiscated by the government of Andreas Papandreou).

Definitely dark blue and white. It would be quite odd, but it is the same shade of the Greek Flag during the military junta.

The touching story behind Queen Anna Maria's wreath:

It was September 18, 1964 when King Constantine married Princess Anna Maria of Denmark in the Metropolis of Athens . Then the young Konstantinos, wanting to show her his love, offered her a bouquet of his favorite flowers, the migue . The bridal bouquet has remained monumental as the specific fine and delicate flowers are hard to find and therefore the order was placed many months in advance.

The " Tear of the Virgin" or otherwise "Lily of the Valley"it is the miguet flower, with its intense, special, refined aroma and its delicate, fine appearance. The word muguet is French (muguet) and its flowery bells are considered a charm and a symbol of happiness for the French. According to a legend, the nightingale does not chirp unless the miguet first blooms. In the symbolic language of flowers it symbolizes the return to happiness. Two days ago from the former king's office one of the country's top florists received a phone call where the former queen Anna Maria wanted to make a special order for a wreath. It was a wreath made entirely of miguete flowers. The instruction was clear "a wreath made only of miguel flowers and a ribbon inscribed 'Your Beloved Anna Maria'".

It was her way of saying goodbye to her husband. Like when they started their journey together. That afternoon in September when a princess of Denmark entered the church and came out as the queen of Greece...
