January 26, 1969: Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia (C) sits in between Queen Juliana (L) and Prince Bernhard of The Netherlands (R) during a gala banquet held in honour of state visit to Ethiopia by the Dutch monarch. Also participating in the visit were Princess Beatrix and Prince Claus.

Back in 1926, an infant was born in Hitzacker, Germany who would one day become the Prince Consort of the Netherlands. Claus van Amsberg was the second child and only son of Claus Felix van Amsberg and Baroness Gösta von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen. Today is the fiftieth wedding anniversary of the former Dutch monarch, Beatrix, and her late husband Claus. The pair were married back in 1966, first in a civil ceremony at the Amsterdam Town Hall and then in a religious ceremony held at the Westerkerk attended by 1,600 guests including royals for many of Europe’s royal houses. Tenth Anniversary of Prince Claus’s Death

October 6th, 2012 marks the tenth anniversary of His Royal Highness Prince Claus of the Netherlands’ passing. He was the husband of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, and the father of His Royal Highness the Prince of Orange. Prince Claus passed away in 2002, from pneumonia, with his immediate family by his side. He had suffered from Parkinson’s Disease since 1991, and had also beaten prostate cancer. Queen Beatrix attended a Concert

On November 10, Queen Beatrix was present at the “Prince Claus Concert” in Culture centre De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The “Prince Claus Concert” takes place once every four years and is organized by the Prince Claus Conservatoire, part of the Hanze University Groningen. Dutch Royals attend CLAUS! Play

Queen Beatrix, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien attended a play in honour of their late husband and father, Prince Claus, on December 6th. The play, entitled CLAUS!, showcased the late Prince’s love of Africa, and his relationship with the Dutch Antilles and Suriname. “Matchmaker” to Beatrix and Claus Passed Away

The man who introduced Queen Beatrix to her future husband, Count Caspar von Oeynhausen-Sierstorpff, has passed away.   On new year’s eve 1962, crown princess Beatrix of the Netherlands first met Claus von Amsberg, who she would marry in 1966.
