French State Visit to Sweden Begins

At the invitation of His Majesty King Carl Gustaf, France’s President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron, started a two-day State Visit to Sweden today, Tuesday January 30.
King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia greeted the French President and the First Lady at the Royal Palace where took place the official welcoming ceremony.
In the courtyard of the Palace the president and the King inspected the Grenadier Guards of the Life Guards and the national anthems were played.
Then, inside the Palace, the President and the First Lady met with representatives of Sweden’s Parliament, the Riksdag, and the King and the Queen greeted the French delegation.
At lunchtime the Royal Couple hosted a luncheon for the President and the First Lady. Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were present as well.
Then President Macron had several institutional meetings with Andreas Norlén, Speaker of the Riksdag, and the Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, and also attended a round table discussion on the future of European security along witht the King.
The Queen and Mrs. Macron, in the meantime, paid a visit to Rinkeby School where they were received by the principal of the school and the Swedish Minister for Schools. During the visit the Queen and the First Lady met with some students.
Afterwards Queen Silvia and Brigitte Macron visited the Moderna Museet, “one of Europe’s leading museums for modern and contemporary art”. They attended a seminar about “how the exchange in the fields of visual and performing arts can be strengthened”, viewed part of the museum’s collection and met with participants of a creative group.
The first day ended with a state banquet hosted by King Carl Gustaf in honour of France’s President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and Princess Christina were present as well.
In his speech the King stated that: “this visit testifies to the strength of the links between Sweden and France”.
