Dutch Royal Family Present Prince Claus Award 2018

Yesterday, Thursday December 6, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, Princess Beatrix, Prince Constantijn and Princess Mabel attended the 2018 Prince Claus Prize Award ceremony held at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
This year the award went to the Market Photo Workshop, a training institute and cultural platform from South Africa.
As Honorary Chairman of the Prince Claus Fund, Prince Constantijn presented the award.
Market Photo Workshop was founded in 1989 by the South African photographer David Goldblatt and aims “to provide photographic training and equipment to black South Africans so they could give visual expression to their experiences” and also “it mentors and supports artists in their career development and continues to instill ideals of socially committed photography”.
Market Photo Workshop was awarded because “the institute guides and supports future photographers in their careers and brings them the ideals of social photography”.
During the ceremony Prince Constantijn awarded other five laureates for their work in the field of culture, development and education.
The Prince Claus Awards are presented by the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development since 1997 annually to artists, thinkers and cultural organizations, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The Prince Claus Fund was established on 6 September 1996 as a tribute to Prince Claus’s dedication to culture and development.
