Charles and Camilla’s Visit To Northern Ireland, Day Two

On their second day in Northern Ireland, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were in Belfast and Dromore before heading over the border to the Republic of Ireland.

The first engagement of the day was at the Police Service of Northern Ireland headquarters, where Prince Charles and Camilla were tasked with opening the PSNI Memorial Garden in honour of the thirteen policemen and women who have been killed in action over the past sixteen years. After a minute’s silence, the Prince and Duchess laid a wreath in the garden before speaking with policemen and women and their families.

Charles and Camilla then headed to Dromore Village, greeting the throngs of crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal visitors. On their walk-about, the couple sampled a number of locally-made goods, including ice-cream and wheaten bread.

The Duchess then had a solo engagement – opening the Dromore Central Primary School with a tour of their library and meeting students studying technology – before she and Charles left Northern Ireland and travelled south to Dublin, the capital of Ireland. They had an audience with President Michael Higgins at his official residence, Áras an Uachtaráin.
