Helping to kick off Time to Talk Day, Prince Harry paid a visit to the London Ambulance Service headquarters in London on Thursday, to help increase the conversation about mental health.

Harry spoke with a number of paramedics and emergency line operators about their experiences and how their job impacts on their mental health, and what they do to counteract any negative effects. “Sometimes those first few seconds stay with you forever,” one 999-operator said to him.

He told the emergency service workers present that “we’re all human, we’re not machines…but it’s not a weakness, it’s strength to be able to come forward, deal with it, move on and be a better person.” Harry also told them one of difficulties he found during his tours of duty was that “you never find out how that guy or girl recovered, whether they did recover or they didn’t” once the helicopter landed and the soldier had been handed over.

The Prince, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, launched the Heads Together campaign last year in an effort to combat mental health.
