State Visit from Germany to Belgium – Day Two

On Wednesday March 9, the second day of the German state visit, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde along with President Joachim Gauck and his partner Daniela Schadt paid a visit to the factory of the German luxury car manufacturer Audi based in Vorst.

At their arrival, they were greeted by the CEO of Audi, Rupert Stadler, and the factory director, Patrick Danau. After the signing of the guest book took place a tour of the factory and it was introduced to the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple a prototype of the new electric SUV from Audi. There was also time to greet the workers of the plant.

The visit continued in Atwerp and the first stop was is the port. King Philippe and President Gauck attended a roundtable meeting at the presence of Eddy Bruyninckx, CEO of Antwerp Port Authority, the Port Alderman Marc Van Peel and the CEOs of major German companies that works in the Port. Theme of the meeting was the German chemical companies Evonik, BASF and Lanxess Covestro that for years worked in the Port.
Meanwhile Queen Mathilde and Mrs Schadt visited the MoMu Fashion Museum of Antwerp and The Rubens House, the former house of the painter Peter Paul Rubens that now is a Museum.

Afterwards there was a reception at the Antwerp City Hall. At their arrival, the King, the Queen, the President and Mrs Schadt were welcomed by the Mayor of Antwerp, Bart De Wever and the Governor of the Province of Antwerp, Cathy Berx.

Then took place a lunch with representatives of Flemish politics and representatives of culture, business, media, academia and civil society hosted by the Mayor and the Governor.

In the afternoon the visit continued in Mechelen, a Municipality in the Province of Antwerp. There, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, the President and Mrs Schadt paid a visit to the ROJM youth center. The Regional Open Youth Centre of Mechelen was founded in 1978. The Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple was greeted by youth, staff and volunteers.

In the evening took place a reception hosted by President Gauck at the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts.
