As they do each year, members of the Swedish Royal Family were present at the Polar Music Prize this afternoon at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel dressed in their finest and walked the blue carpet upon arrival to the event, the King being his usual self and rushed past the media to get inside.

The King’s sister, Princess Christina, was also present with her husband Tord Magnuson.

This year’s winners were Dame Evelyn Glennie and Emmylou Harris, both of whom received their prizes from King Carl Gustaf. After the awards ceremony concert, a banquet was held at the Grand Hotel for the laureates and invited guests.

The Polar Music Prize was established in 1989 (first awarded in 1992) to honour “significant achievements in music and/or musical activity, or for achievements which are found to be of great potential importance for music or musical activity, and it shall be referable to all fields within or closely connected with music.”
