Today, several of the ladies of the British Royal Family were present at a Buckingham Palace garden party to honour the 100th anniversary of the Women’s Institute (WI).

The Duchess of Cornwall hosted the event which was attended by the Countess of Wessex,  the Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra of Kent. The ladies met with a number of members of the WI, one of the largest women’s volunteer organisation in the country which has over 200,000 members in the United Kingdom.

Camilla, who is a member of the Tetbury WI, got a chance to speak with the women who inspired the movie Calendar Girls, six members of the Rylstone and District WI who created a naked calendar to raise money for cancer charities in 1999.

The WI was founded in 1915 to encourage women to produce food during World War One.
